    Re: RockIt returns...

With the signage ready for over a year with "Rock It Mountain"
seems that "Rockin' was a typo in the press release. And with
how disorganized the whole "Year of a Million dreams" press
info was released, that seems the most logical conclusion.

BUT with the negative feed back on how lame the effects
were on Grad nights, and with info that Al provided regarding
that the Rock It effects weren't all placed, because of the
rush to open Space Mt. by July 17th, 2005, I really doubt
whether they will even bother with the "Rock It Mt". Sounds
like too much down time and too many $$$'s just to give
    Space a 2nd light show.

    Re: RockIt returns...

The effects might have been tame but it showed so much potential in my view. I still had a lot of fun going on it. Yeah it was just a bunch of red and blue lights along the turns and a few light rig towers but being aware of the situation left my very eager to see how they'd finish it off. If they light up the asteroid in neon-mode, get some actual strobe lights and maybe spotlights going through the place, maybe some laser lights, and add a whole lot more wall projections I'd be hooked.

Thanks for your input Almandot! I wish I could have ridden this myself. Perhaps they can still add many of the originally intended effects in the months to come without closing the ride.

Have you seen the Space Mountain sign in person? It's a bit more complicated than you seem to believe. Take a look:

Here is the sign during the afternoon, ROCK IT letters seen at just the right angle:

The embedded LED lighting probably isn't particularly something you can simply move around to make it work...

Here is the same photo, with the levels adjusted in Photoshop to show the way the sign actually is a little better:

I'm thinking it's just typo in the Press Release. Probably quickly put together and typed up in Florida with limited info on the RockIt overlay, and "released" from Burbank, so it would be coming from Disney HQ.

Thank you MasterGracey! I thought I was going insane there for a bit.
    Enough about the sign.

Is this ride hype? Or is Disney actually going to make it fly?
I want to think happy thoughts. It worked for Peter Pan.

Umm, I think Imagineers are working on plussing it and getting it up somewhere near it's original target. I think Al wrote about it a while back (when all of this Year of a Million Dreams stuff first came out) and noted that it won't be anything like the Grad Nite incarnation and will feature a real soundtrack, and real special effects.

Thats what they are trying to do. They are trying to get that to work, but no luck.

I didnt say rearrange them, all they have to do is remove those LEDS, and put new ones in, one letters worth of LEDS wont cost that much

    Re: RockIt returns...

^Who says they have to use the sign at all?

Looks like the new "Rockin' Space Mountain" will be offered for a few months in early 2007 (Second week of January thru April 15th - possible dates, subject to change). It will be offered for the entire operating day, so why do they need to change the sign? Just leave it at Space Mountain, and place some of those temporary signs they use at the entrance announcing the "Rockin' " version....

    You are correct sir

Disney noted the feedback from Grad Nite, and realized that they had a lot of work to do to really get this night-time version of the ride into hyperspace.

Originally, Rockit Mountain was supposed to be far cooler than it ended up becoming. Had Space Mountain re-opened in the fall of '05 as originally planned, we would have seen quite a different Rockit Mountain. However, as we all know, when Matt Ouimet found out that Space Mountain wasn't supposed to be back up and running for the 50th, he got everyone into gear to have that changed (which, I don't think anyone is in disgust over). A lot of effort went in to getting the ride ready for July, and they miraculously did it.

However, because of the rush, only half of the effects for Rockit Mountain were completed. Add onto this that the Imagineers didn't think that the lighting on the giant meteor would make the track visible...but, it did.

So WDI is creating a far better night-time version of the attraction (whatever name it will go by). It will have a new soundtrack, new effects, and will certainly not be anything like it was for Grad Nite '06.

It would cost a lot less to change the press release.

    Re: RockIt returns...

That doesn't make any sense, since "Rockit" sounds better, and makes more sense to use a rocket for a Space trip.

"Rockin'" goes along with the questionable droppin' of "g's" found next door. Goes without sayin' that the former parkin' lot shouldn't be a inspiration for namin' DL attractions.
