When I was little, I went there every time. I loved going up to the fort and shooting at the Columbia as it sailed by.

It seems like the last few times I've been to Disneyland it's been closed for some reason or the other - the last time was due to the POTC 2 premiere.

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

Cascade Peak was unstable so they bulldozed it down.

The Fort had wood damage and there's no plans/budget to fix it. Also people say it's for safety from the guns. But I hear WDW's fort is still open. Right now its exclusively used for F! I passed by it and about 3-4 groups were looking around trying to get in- they were disappointed it's closed.

    TSI is quite fun. Yeah.

two thing that close down the fort.

One the gun that Disney had in the fort One girl got her finger stuck and pull or rip finger off so disney remove the guns.

about 3 -6 month all the wood to the fort need to replace.

If this was a thread on the Castle, someone would point out, correctly, that it's "Sleeping Beauty Castle."

So, just to keep the tradition alive...

    It's "Tom Sawyer Island."

    It doesn't belong to him.

I remember as kids being told to look for Injun Joe's treasure under the sign of the cross, so yes, we still go to the Island and now my kids look for it... okay, I help, too.

I have never been over there, but will in October. I'll have my 6 year old son, and I'm sure he's going to LOVE it!!!!
How do you get over there... is it by the canoes??? Do they have a bridge to walk over there??

It's by raft. You don't have to walk over but 2" of water.

Sure, everyone knows...But does that preclude us from calling attractions by their correct names?

    Re: Tom Sawyers Island

TSI was one of my fave places when i was a teenager in the mid 80s...my grandparents would never go over there so it made for a good place to go and smoke without getting caught

I miss a lot of things about it, like getting a pickle from the fort and the teeter totter rock, but its still a pretty cool place to escape the crowds and catch a look at the sails and rigging above POTC's show building
