I have seen characters on rides many times. Yes, it does happen....and it's usually in a place where you can see them - a Dark Ride isn't someplace I've ever seen them - usually in Fantasyland on the Carousel or Casey Jr, but especially on Mad Tea Party.

While it wasn't at DL, I saw Jasmine on the carpet ride at MK's Adventureland.

    Maynard is definitely a character.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

I saw Captain Hook walking out of the PotC exit once. He was on the exit platform and ahead of us as we left. I thought it was funny. Maybe he was trying to see about acquiring a new ship?

yea they go on rides but most of the time the reason they do this is for "Make A Wish Foundation", when they bring kids with Terminal Illnesses, the Characters will "Suprise" them and ride on a ride with them

    Comandeer....nautical term.

I usually just see characters riding the omnibus. Usually the "classic" Disney characters and Bert and Mary.

    Re: Characters on Rides

Last October Peter Pan, Wendy, and Captain Hook got on Dumbo with my boarding group. They each rode in their own Dumbo though- not with others. I was so excited about getting the golden Dumbo that I almost didn't notice them. Peter was a blast- he was absolutely the most "in character" face character I had ever met and was just soooo much fun. They stuck around after they rode and took a few pictures with people.

I also have seen characters riding with what I assume are Make a Wish kids. On a recent trip to WDW we saw a POTC boat load up with pretty much the entire Peter Pan crew (Smee, Peter, Wendy, Captain, and I want to say there were a couple other characters on there as well). There was just one family in the boat and the child was transferred on from a special wheelchair. The characters were all interacting with him and he just beamed the whole time they were loading up... it was pretty awesome... one of those Disney moments that just makes you feel really good.

well thats not always the case actually. most of the time the characters just grab a nice kid (with the ok of the parents of course) and take them for a ride. walah! magical memories!
