Was there a Tron Themed attraction?

I was in line for Pizza in TL and heard a father telling his teen sons that there was a Tron ride either near or around where Innovations is now. I wanted to say he was wrong but was unsure of myself and didn't want to look like a fool if I was wrong.

I certainly don't remember anything Tron, but I don't remember much of Disneyland before 2000, didn't go much in my teen years.

Was there a Tron themed attraction?

Re: Was there a Tron Themed attraction?

it was part of the peoplemover.

you would travel through (i believe) the innoventions building as if you were on a parasail. or light cycle. either way, you could tell you were in tron. man, i miss the peoplemover.

Since I was really really young, the Tron room scared me for some reason. I still remember it well though.

Re: Was there a Tron Themed attraction?

Dang, you beat me to it. Peoplemover became Peoplemover Thru The World of Tron. There were two "superspeed tunnels" that the Peoplemover went "thru" -- you were surrounded by a big white screen that you went through, slowly. My memory is failing me as to what used to be on the screens, I think they showed POV car race footage, various shots that felt like you were going really fast. There were fans which blew air to increase the feeling of speed. When Tron came out, they changed the films in these rooms over to Tron footage. The first room showed the scene where Jeff Bridges had just been sucked into the computer, and was flying through abstract geometric shapes. The second room showed Recognizers flying around, alternating with the Light Cycle game with the other cycles blocking you in with their light walls.

Since arcades are generally considered an "attraction" I should mention that the Starcade had a big bank of Tron games, and a nice display wall to go with them.

Was it from the voice of the MCP that was heard in this segment?

Re: Was there a Tron Themed attraction?

They could probably make a really interesting new Tron ride somewhere in Tomorrowland (Maybe where the Rocket Rods were).

I agree with that. A Tron ride would be cool.

Another movie I wouldn't mind getting some attention is The Black Hole. this movie creeped me out when I was a kid. It would be cool if Disney did a remake of this movie as they are remaking a bunch of their old movies. To keep that dark feel to it, get someone like Christopher Nolan to direct. Make it a serious flick by cutting out the cheezy parts (sure, keep the robots but change them so they wouldn't be so geeky. Maximillian was cool but the other two...) Then, make an E-ticket attraction out of it in Tomorrowland.
