    People Mover as Movie Tie-In?

A thread describing the 'Tron Room' section of the ol' People Mover gave me an idea as to one way the execs could resurrect this once-beloved ride for customer satisfaction while simultaneously justifying its existence to the money-men:
Temporarily theme small sections of the ride with dioramas/limited movement animatronics promoting new and up-coming films.
Think of it, inescapable advertising disguised as a dark ride!
The People Mover voice-over could announce the title, plot and release dates while a higher-pitched, nearly inaudible voice could target the kids and dogs with toy and video game ads. And as soon as it's time to push the next and future Disney Classic, Mousesurplus could sell all the peices from the outgoing set-up on ebay.
    It's what the double-talking Hollywood and advertising types call a 'win-win situation-situation'!

i would rather not see this happen...tv already does its job well in promoting movies. Even if they did do this...they would have to keep updating it everytime disney makes a movie and remove AA's and things when the movie is released. Other may agree with me or disagree though. I just dont think its as cleaver as one may think

No offense meant...but ugh. Please no. I think this sort of thing in the windows of the Emporium is enough. I would hate to see direct current movie plugs in the middle of another attraction. There would be nothing "disguised" about it, if it were done that way!

Disney was always plugging movie product. But they were adept at the "soft sell" or working the plug into the Park in a more subtle way. Not just hyping plot and release date and such in the middle of some totally unrelated attraction.

Look at "It's Tough To Be A Bug" which premiered at Walt Disney World long before the movie was even released. Nowhere in the attraction (except outside the theater on small posters and signage) did it directly mention the (then) upcoming film, "A Bug's Life." Nor did it incorporate any direct footage from the movie in the attraction. It was totally free-standing, if-you-will. That's the way to do it.

But just advertising a current film in the Park itself...other than those animated window displays at the Emporium, or posters out in the Esplanade...I say, "No Thanks."

At least the Tron Tunnel fit in with Tomorrowland. Even if a lot of Disneyland Cast, Imagineers and Guests felt it was a cheap and shameless plug for the movie. Hence earning its popular nickname the "Ron Tunnel" after Tron producer (and Walt's son-in-law)...Ron Miller.

Good Idea. But it was popular so there is no real need.

Son-in-law. He married Diane, Walt's daughter.

Although I'd love for the PeopleMover to return, I'm not sure that using it as a device for blatant advertising would be embraced by the public. I never really had much problem with posters of current movies near the main gate or occasionally in the Emporium windows but that was it.

However, the PeopleMover could provide some nifty interactive abilities for guests inside the cars, such as telecommunications, a fictional "news of the future" video feed, ability to make dinner reservations, etc.

What I miss most about Tomorrowland was the constant touting of scientific advancements and the cheerful feeling of "progress" in the air. The fact that Tomorrowland has ceased to be a place of constant and ever-present movement tends to make the area much more dull than it once was.

My idea? Bring it back but enclose it in a tube with special lighting and, yes, AIR CONDITIONING. Have small bots along the way that make comments. Have a robotic refueler that your vehicle pauses at and does a quick, robotic check up. Occasionally, the tube folds in on itself when you zing out over Autopia and such. It will give a new zing while keeping the old zing alive.

Or bring it back. You could do billboards...digital, that hangover head and show a few seconds of previews of things so that your motion will provide a full preview as you pass under them...

Way too much coffee this morning.

    Peace either/or.

At the same this is Tomorrowland. Who says this isn't what the advertisements of tomorrow will be like?

I say bring back the People Mover and by all means, plus it! First, you could go through one of those trade show mist screens with Davey Jones warning you, then you could see Jack Sparrow (Disney's most popular character) cross-dressing, then in a barrel, then with treasure from the sub-lagoon. See, it all ties together!
