More Dapper Dan?

Hey everybody! If you go to the Disneyland audition site, you'll notice that there's an audition for Dapper Dans coming up. Does this mean the current ones will be fired? Or are we going to have more than one Dapper Dan group?

Seeking strong male singers to become part of The Dapper Dans, a turn-of-the-century barbershop quartet at the Disneyland® Resort. Role Descriptions:
Lead: Strong, tuneful
Tenor: High b flat or higher
Baritone: Good parts singer
Bass: True bass, low E flat or lower

10:00 am (sign-in begins at 9:30 am)

Requirements:

• Traditional barbershop singing and movement experience is preferred but not necessary. Outgoing with a warm personality and good comic timing is a plus. Ability to learn two or more vocal roles is also a plus.
• Music will be distributed and taught at the top of the audition along with vaudevillian dialogue. Bring a musical selection of your own demonstrating personality and range; an accompanist will be provided.
• Bring a picture and resume.
• You must be at least 18 years of age to audition.

Entertainers for this show are covered under the terms and conditions of a collective bargaining agreement with the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA). If you are not a current member of AGVA, you will be required to join the union.

The current guys aren't in any danger of losing their jobs. Disney often holds auditions for long-running shows to boost the number of subs available for any given role.

Exactly what I was going to say. They probably just need more subs, especially with the busy holiday season ahead of them.

I heard somewhere that they need to fill some positions because some of the Dapper Dans are getting work elsewhere (young-ins and all excercising their talent).

looks like everone was wrong. They all got fired. some got jobs at the park, less fullfilling than being a dapper dan, others were not so fortunate and had to find a job they could get by relying on a resume of 20 years of barbershop singing.

Shelby's dans had to get the new jobs. Jim has been severly reduced to only a sub for the new guys. Bill is a pirate singer in new orleans square and does theater on the side. I finally found bob and he has a carpet cleaning buisness. I emailed shelby and he said he is still doing differenet jobs and projects. Nothing really steady

^i think you're talking about the old Dapper Dans. Haven't heard anything about the current ones being all fired. They probably need some subs, and possibly some of the current ones are going on to other things-thus they need new Dapper Dans. not everyone sticks around forever. (except for the older dapper dans. =) )

If you compare, there is a far greater variety of songs by the old dapper dans than there are of the new guys. For ever 1 video of the new guys on the internet, you will find at least 6 of the Old Dapper Dans. The new guys have have ample time to make a name for themselves and learn new songs but they havnt done so. Videos of the old guys have only been posted around the same time as videos of the new guys so the old guys dont have an advantage. They just have experience. Observe

On all of the old dapper dans videos you can see huge crouds surrounding them when they are outside. They dont seem less popular to me. I just seems that the new guys are more promoted by mics and flag ceromonies and such.

I actually popped in over here to say that I saw some of the new-new guys performing the other day, and I thought they were pretty good!

I think the new guys are great, they draw good sized crowds and put on a good show. Give them years to hone it like previous Dans had and they'll be that tight too. Personally I like seeing them here and there on Main Street through out the day.

As far as Mics go aren't the new group singing in NOS (I actually saw them in DCA last week too) miced too. And the pirate singers as well. And Drawn to the Magic, you can't convince me that Jay from Drawn to the Magic lip syncs. His voice is clear and powerful enough to cut through the crowd but they mic him anyway. Using microphones doesn't mean anyone's lip syncing and if the Dan naysayers would simply watch a show you'd see/hear they ain't lip syncing anything.

Not when I've seen them. They're on the bike, the trolley, over with the ragtime piano player, out on the parade route. All over the place, really.
