Re: Rainforest Cafe or Blue Bayou?
I didn't get around to eating at the Blue Bayou, but I can offer a brief (humble) opinion on the Rainforest.
I did enjoy the dining there, especially the desert, and the 'thunderstorms' were a nice touch (although, granted, they could get annoying after a while). However, I get the feeling that this restaurant would be more at home in Adventureland. Is this the case in other parks, such as WDW?

I would take BB over Rainforest based on looks alone. IMHO, Rainforest is tacky and guady, where BB is a bit more refined. I totally respect and appreciate it if Rainforest is your cup of tea, but it's not for me. With that fake thunderstorm going off so often, it is hard to hear your company. (btw, Safeway has the same thing in their produce section if you're interested)
Out of the two I would go for Rainforest also. I used to love Blue Bayou but the new menu doesn't appeal to me, I'm not a fan of the monte cristo I love the ambiance and I've had good service there every time except my last trip, but it's lost a bit of its appeal for me
Rainforest can be fun, I've always had great service at the one in DTD and the lava cake is amazing......and HUGE The only thing I"ve eaten there that I didn't care for was the crab cake sandwich, everything else I've had there has been great! Like Buttercup I love the blue crab dip with tortilla chips
That Said......I also love Onut's suggestion of the Jazz Kitchen!!
I've eaten at both, and the Blue Bayou has an atmosphere that's incredible and romantic and hard to beat, as well as amazing food. I've had both bad food, and really bad service, at the Rainforest Cafe, so I have to say, in my opinion, it's Blue Bayou all the way.
I think the food at the BB is better now, but not twice as good as the new prices would suggest. Since you've already enjoyed the ambiance there (which is better or worse depending where you sit), I'd recommend the Rainforest Cafe for your birthday.
The Rainforest food isn't that great but I love any food and the atmosphere is so much fun. If you're birthday is over 21, you can even get something to drink at Rainforest--that's important. A few years ago, we actually got annual passes and made several trips to Disneyland just because the Rainforest Cafe up here in SF didn't have any weekend reservations available for a month.
