Year of a million dreams: Win by mail!

Please excuse me if this already has a thread of it's own, but darkbeer posted a refrence to this and I felt the need to elaborate...

You can enter the "Year of a million dreams" by sending a postcard to disney. Woo hoo! (<- OK, so I have no life....)

You can find all the details on the disney web site

    or you can just read...

Good luck all! I'm off to the postoffice for a stack of pre-paid postcards!

Just a note... The postcards you buy at the post office are the wrong size. Also, just to clarify, they need to be hand written and no labels (you can use a label for the Disney address.) I called and clarified this point. And, the website says 3x5, but when I called and asked about this, as the smallest size allowed by the post office is 3.5x5, they said that was the right size. (It said 3.5 on the website yesterday.) But, prepaid postcards are larger.

I wrote step by step instructions on how to enter by mail in the News section here at Mice Chat on September 15th... (and have updated the instructions...)

By the way, the official Rules link did update the rules to state {3.5" by 5" }about one week after going online

Interesting since, as you can see in my OP, it says 3"x5" in the text I cut/pasted from the official website today.

Right, the confusing part is that the USPS will refuse to accept items smaller than 3.5x5. It will be classified "Unmailable" and you will be out the stamp. Yesterday the site said 3.5x5. I don't know why it is saying the 3x5 today. I verified the 3.5x5 yesterday (as opposed to the prestamped postcards).

And Thanks to Darkbeer for the post from Sept 15, where I found my info yesterday to send out my postcards. I verified the "written" portion as my son is dysgraphic, but they said it has to be handwritten (though we can add a label to clarify what he wrote.)

Federal law requires a "No Purchase Neccesary" option (without it, it would be "gambling")...

So they had two main choices...

Last Year, during the Honda Giveaway (a car a day in October), you had to go to Guest Relations and fill out a form to get a scratcher to be a potential winner)

This time, Disney decided to do the Mail In option instead of having to show up and register outside the gates.....

As for confusing, yes it is

Where can you get 3.5 x 5 cards? All the ones I found in the stores say 3x5 (these are blank index cards)

Also it never clarifies in the rules but is it one entry per household or one person per day entries? From what I can tell it looks like it's one per person so 2 people in the same household can enter each day, is that how you read it too?

The best bet, go the the Post office and buy Postcards with postage already in place... they are 3.5" by 5.5", I am cutting off 1/2" off the left side. You pay 2 cents extra (26 cents per card, versus 24 cents for a postcard "stamp")

Some office supply stores do sell sheets that are perforated to 3.5 by 5, also check the internet.

The rules clearly state ONE per PERSON per day, and there is no age limit... So if you have 4 persons in the house, you can mail 4 postcards a day.

I am mailing 2 postcards a day, one for me, and one for Lisa with the same address.

Once again, this link talks about how to mail in entries step by step....

Also, from what I have gleened, the drawings will be held once a month on the 20th (not sure if Oct 20 or Nov 20 will be the first drawing). The mail will be kept seperated by date received and once a month the drawings will be held for Mon thru Sat. Then the combine all the postcards for mon-Sat and draw the Sunday winners. Will be interesting to see how it comes off. I am figuring the first drawing will be Nov 20th and winners probably won't hear anything til December.

Re: Year of a million dreams: Win by mail!

I've started my "wishes" mail-in campaign. The first few sets of postcards (four/day for my family of four) have been sent.

In stark contrast to Darkbeers excellent advice, I've taken a different route:

I'm using the standard USPS postcards as is. No cutting off an edge to adjust the size.

I'm handwriting each card in it's entirety including the contest address.

I'm writing my personal info on the back of the card leaving just the address on the font.

In short I'm doing it the way the average Joe would. I'm betting on one of two options:

    1. This is totally random drawing from all entries received. If that's the case then what I have done neither hurts or helps. So I'm good.

    2. There is a built in predisposition to select "average" people and weed out the "professional" contest entries. In that case they would be looking for machine printed addresses, cut to size postcards, and other signs such as vertical handwriting. If that's the case my "normal" entries will have a better than average chance.

The only way I can get hurt is if they really are are tossing out standard sized postcards from the USPS. If that's the case I expect we'll know it because ALL the prizes will be won by micechat members (except me of course).

    Time will tell.
