    Partners Statues

I'm know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I hate them, I think they are tacky and although we all love what Walt Disney created with his theme parks, I just don't think he needs a statue of himself in the middle of every park. The man just doesn't need to be revered this way, and I find it well...off putting. The first time I saw a picture of one in a park I was like "Oh God, are you kidding me?"

I'm glad DLP doesn't have one; I don't think a partners statue would go over well over there.

Yes you probably will get tomatoes thrown at you for saying that on this board, but not by me. I think there should have been one Partners statue tops, and in Disneyland, the only one Walt necessarily had a say in and walked in.

Maybe a moderator could combine this with the Poll post, they were supposed to be one and the same.

I love the partners statue, it reminds people what Walt Did. Walt Disney doesn't get near as much credit as he should... Don't take the partenrs Statue out! It's not off putting at all. Though, Walt would have never put a Statue of himself in a park, he was extremely selfless.

It's just there to honor him.

I wouldn't say he was selfless. He demanded his name be placed on all products coming out of Walt Disney Productions, and that included changing the company name from Disney Brothers Studio to Walt Disney Productions. But yes, I can see what you mean - he wouldn't have put a statue of himself in his own playground.

But doesn't the PARK itself remind you of what he did? Do people need a statue to think of that? I mean, why did they bother to visit the park that day in the first place? Also, the man was creative, but he didn't cure cancer...why must he be idolized?

Exactly. Great point, so all the more reason why the statues shouldn't be there.

Anyone know who's idea it was to put those things in anyway?

The "Partners" statues are not going anywhere. I however feel they jumped the shark when they installed one at Walt Disney Studios Paris.

I also wonder how many of you feel about the Roy Disney and Minnie Mouse statue at WDW's MK, which I feel is just perfect since Roy was the one who made WDW happen after Walt's passing.

Oh God, I had forgotten about the Roy one. That's double cheesy. Who keeps putting these things in the parks?

Hey, no one is getting flame-broiled here for offering opinions. It's a free country.

However, I do understand the point some make about Walt not ever putting these statues at the park. Think of it...it would have been quite pretentious of him to do so, so naturally, he would not have done it. However..."partners" statues are about the only thing that is teaching young guests to the park who really was Walt Disney and that he was the originator of this phenomenum. New generations should realize the name "Disney" belongs to a man, and is not just a Company name. Reason why I do not object to the "Partners" statues at all. In fact, it was one of the few things Eisner did right for the parks.

Hey hey hey! Thats where I have to stop you! Roy is the reason WDW is here! He is honoured simply with a small bench statue and you consider that cheesy? Cheesy is the exact same statue of Walt Disney in most Disney parks - not a humble, often not noticed statue of Roy.

Well, I understand what you are saying, but don't "younger generations" know that it is not just a company name and was actually named after someone when they hear "Walt Disney World"???

And isn't that what the "Walt Disney Story" on Main Street is for?

I remember reading once, I'm not sure where that the imagineers placed the statue there to prevent managment from using it as an area to place marketing items that would have ruined the themeing of the area... i.e. a circus act in the middle of the hub. The partners statue was hoped to become an iconic symbol itself and therefore prevent management from using the space.
