The Worst Disney Maintenance - Grand Canyon BB Hole

It has been years since someone shot a BB hole through the glass at the Grand Canyon diorama at Disneyland. Walt would have made sure that something like a BB hole would be fixed with a new pane of glass immediately. With the increased security, it's less likely than ever that fixing the glass would just encourage the perp to shoot it again. And that bullet hole really looks bad, as if you are at a run-down park where they just can't afford to repair the vandalism. Why aren't they doing anything about the bullet hole?

How long has it been there? Either way, it is sad. I don't get to the park very often but I do recall on my last trip in December I noticed the skrim in the HM's graveyard looking really bad as well. The good news is that the park looked MUCH cleaner than when I visited in 2001.

I believe that stuff can be really expensive to fix and replace. I believe the same thing happened in Haunted Mansion and all they could do was design the hole as if it were some sort of spider web.

I do remember reading about how they camouflaged the crack in the HM's glass over the party scene. Is the hole in the Grand Canyon's glass really noticeable?

Considering that the hole has been there for over 30 years, I'm going to assume that there is a VERY good reason for it not having been repaired. Probably a situation a la the HM bullet hole.

Honestly, I can't remember the last time I noticed the hole in the Grand Canyon.

Re: The Worst Disney Maintenance - Grand Canyon BB Hole

The hole has been there since 1974. This website quotes the following:

" As you're going through it look and you'll notice what's supposed to look
like a spider web on one of the sheets of glass. (It's on one of the
last ones you see) The story I heard behind this (from a HM Cast Member
and a good friend of mine) is that one night somebody actually shot
through the glass, leaving a bullet hole.

This was confirmed by Mark Keiser (Retlaw 72-76 Security 77-81) Summer
1974 "The guy that shot there presumably also shot the hole in the last
or second to last window of the Primeval World diorama. Later
investigation determined the hole to be .22 caliber (in both places), and
bullet fragments matched (courtesy of Anaheim PD) the holes in Adventures
in Inner Space (he shot up the snow flakes)."

There is another bullet sized hole beneath the duelist on the right, so
perhaps a deranged guest was shooting at "the man with the gun".

They knew that to replace the glass they'd have to take the roof off the
building first, so they decided to simply disguise it as a spider web.
BTW, there is a spare pane in the back lot."

One of the dinosaur animatronics has not been working correctly for years, his broken head stuck in a pool of water, and the first thing you mention is a BB gun hole????

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that at one time that dinosaur moved just like his brothers. In fact, I remember talking to one of the Railroad engineers back in 1998 about just noticing the dinosaur had stopped moving.

Also, it doesn't sound like Walt to place one static dinosaur so close to two moving ones.

They'd have to remove the whole ceiling just to replace the glass.

Speaking of bad maintenance, when are those clowns in New York City going to fix the Statue of Liberty? I remember when they first put that thing up it would do a full blown John Travolta disco dance! Now its arm just sticks into the air holding that torch. No movement at all! Rediculous!
    What an idiot....
