Such Hatred For Disneyland 50th Stuff At The Parks

Did people hate the Disneyland 50th event for the last 18 months? Seems to be alot of dislike for the gold shiny stuff around the parks and a celebration to see it leave!

You only turn 50 once. Wait until the park is dressed up in diamonds and really be sparkly!!!

I don't think most people hated it. At first we all loved it. It was just too much for a bit too long. The 50th really got a little long in the tooth toward the end.

It was fun while it lasted. Now we are into our blue and silver period with the Year of a Million Churros.

I liked it. I just hated the fact that it brought in so many people and it gave Disney the idea of doing some money-brining gig constantly so that there is no off-season now. What was the celebration b4 the 5oth? The 45th anniversary?

This Year of a Million Dreams stuff is what is really annoying. I don't enjoy one bit of hearing about it. The displays and merchandise to go along with it are plain ugly and tacky.

The 50th at least had some nostalgia that came along with it. Yes, it was carried on for too long, but it at least gave you a sense of excitement when it first debuted.

The Year of A Million Dreams hardly makes sense and has no sentimental value attatched to it. Just corporate marketing garbage.

The 50th was a great reason to spruce up the park. It needed it bad!

    I agree 100%

I loved the 50th Anniversary. Even if it was a bit long, it was so great, and I'm very happy I got to experience it (again and again).

I really do hate everythnig about the Year of a Million Dreams though. It all feels so cheap and heartless after such a nostalgic, truly heart-felt 50th celebration.

Well said. I thought for the most part that it was much ado about nothing - and that the advertising outweighed the actual changes/improvements to the park. But we did get a much-needed facelift.

True. I didn't like the huge photo mosaics, and the 50 "hidden" gold mickeys were lost on me as well. I wasn't thrilled that the 50th was celebrated in less than classy style by all the Disney parks world wide. What got me about the 50th was the loving attention that the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain, Small World, and a slew of building facades around the park got in preparation for the big event. let's just hope that they keep it all looking neat and pretty for the next 50 years.

I liked the 50th stuff, it made the park a little more interesting especially having the gold cars on each ride. I think that all of the crowns on the castle were a bit much. But my favorite 50th decorations were the tinkerbells on the lamps of mainstreet, I wish they would have kept those.

I loved ALL the special attention that was was done for the
50th, and as Dusty said, it's more important that the same
spirit continues forward, so there is never another period of
neglect, (as ther was during the Pressler era).

Each of those special extra's will always be a fond memory
of the 50th, and I did enjoy the murals, the hidden 50th MM
icons, the gold vehicles, the 50th celebration of the MMC.

I was really hoping that the crowns would be a permanent
addition to the castle, but sadly they have been removed.
Some of the extra gold bling is on the castle. Hopefully some
of that will remain as a lasting momento and in honor of
Walt's first Park! And also, it should be pointed out that the
even though Tink is no longer on the Main Street lampposts
(and I did like that last minute 50th extra for lampposts, but
glad that they have been removed, now with the celebration
concluded, HOWEVER . . . .) the lampposts on Main Street are
still gold. The color is certainly not too garish, and it would
certainly be appropriate it they were to remain that color for
at least the next 50 years.

I also wished that they left the crowns, but they have left the castle looking much better than it did before the 50th, with some gold and color.

I think that the gas lamps though could go back to black. It was nice for a while, but they do look more "plastic" in the bright yellow color. I believe they were dark green before. I liked that better.

honestly, how many of you get to go at least every week, i could only go once during the whole 50th and it was great!

i think thats the problem with apers, you guys stop enjoying the things disney does for the poeple who don't go as much...if you got tired of it, don't go as often and take pleasure in disneys hard work when you do go.
