    Another guide, thanks to http://matterhorn1959.blogspot.com

Now THIS is a tour that I'd love to have gone on...

    Growing older is manditory
    Growing up is however, optional

I'm right there with you on that Tour or any backstage Tour.

I don't know why, but I just love the line:

It's all right to point, unless the subject is Walt Disney. We respect his need to travel the Park without interruption.
Perhaps it's because it reminds me of the days when it was not uncommon to see Walt himself walking around his Magic Kingdom.

    Very cool.

I found it interesting that they disallowed eye shadow and eye liner on the tour guides.

What year was this originally published? Knowing that fact would be most beneficial to me and my Museum ..

Just something about those Tour Guides in their little plaid wool skirts and their riding crops in their hands. God Bless John Hench (who designed their costumes) wherever he is, still asking to read the ladies' palms.

Only thing better was during the years when the Club 33 waitresses were costumed in French Maid outfits with very short skirts (not the earlier longer skirted ones). It was a sad day when they did away with those French Maid costumes and switched to those black long-skirted classier mortician outfits they wear now. Which prompted one Club waitress to comment at the time, "Yeah...We've gone from French Maid to Old Maid."

I would kill for the chance to wear that skirt and hat.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that just yet.

How does someone become one of these tour guides nowadays? Do you have to already be employed at the Park and move up or can an outsider with similar job experience try out for a tour guide position?

This image of your cat, fully dressed, requesting a photo shoot (in an English accent mind you) just really got to me. Wow, I need to go catch my breath and maybe see what was in that bottled water I was drinking earlier...

Re: So you want to be a Disneyland Tour Guide?

    Tour Guide Sidebar:

Disneyland Tour Guides had such pre-sold pedigree in the marketplace in the past (and maybe still) that it was almost policy at United Airlines (and probably other airlines and companies) that if you had "Disneyland Tour Guide" on your employment application...you were almost an automatic hire.

And hire them they did! All the time I'm running into ex-Tour Guides that are flight attendants on United, that I either recognize or they make a comment to me if I'm wearing a Disney shirt of some kind, or it just comes up in conversation.

Just One Recent Memorable Example: Last year while we were returning from the Grand Opening of Hong Kong Disneyland flying back to Los Angeles via Narita, Japan...our upstairs Business Class flight attendant was a gal I recognized as a past Tour Guide and was the Tour Guide (she's Japanese) that helped escort Emperor Hirohito around Disneyland on his historic visit to the U.S. back in 1976! She's been a flight attendant with United now for decades. And we swapped a lot of fun stories on the way back while the rest of the cabin slept!

She accompanied Emperor Hirohito on board the private railroad car the Lilly Belle on its very first trip, where he was given the honor of being the very first Guest to ride her on it's inaugural run! And she was with him when he acquired the famous Mickey Mouse watch that he later always wore and which was buried with him upon his wrist, at his request upon his death.

She shared details about these and lots more wonderful stories. A really wonderful lady!

It's always a Small World out there when it comes to Disney.

I don't think the two finger thing happened until after this booklet was published.
