Question Going to Disneyland.......a few Questions....

Hi! I'm new to this forum, but I've been a Disneyland Fan since I was very young, when my family would go every year and eat our lunch in the parking lot (before they built a hideous parking structure).

I am taking my 2 yr old son for the first time to Disneyland on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. I have a few questions for you frequent visitors.....

*How crowded is it on that day?

*Can I take my son on Mr Toad's Wild Ride, Peter Pan Ride and the Snow White Ride?

*Can I take him on Pirates?

What tips/advice/suggestions do you have for me? It's been at least 3 years since I've been there and want to make my son's visit as special as possible!

Thank you so much for anything you can tell me!

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving shouldn't be bad....but who knows now a days, crowds aren't predictable any more. You will be able to take your son on all the dark rides, but do expect a wait for Peter Pan, always at least a 30 minute wait for that one.

Have a great time no matter what.........!!!!

Try to be there at park opening too. Wednesday is a non-early entry day so you have a good chance of getting on all the Fantasyland rides with little wait. But you've got to be there early.

    Have a great time!!!!

Hi! I'm going there too on that day! Your son might not be ready for pirates yet. But as for the others go for it. It probably will be crowded so be prepared. Have a great time and welcome!

We totally used to eat in the picnic area...and my grandma always had sandwiches in her giant purse, sodas, chips...it was like Mary Poppins' bag!

I don't know how crowded it wil be that day and couldn't even make a guess. However, there are lots of things your toddler will be able to ride! Don't forget Small World and the Tiki Room, the Jungle Cruise, the Mark Twain, and my nephew could ride all day on the train and be happy!

    Have fun!

Re: Going to Disneyland.......a few Questions....

We just got back from DL with our kids aged 2 and 8 and my 2 year old took some warming up but ended the time there just LOVING it. The key I've learned is to take cues from the kids. If they freak out when they see characters, don't go shoving them up to each one you see so you can get a picture -- take a picture of the character alone instead. If one dark ride scares them, take them on a few "outside" things for a bit and then try again. By all means, do not start with Pirates!! That is a LONG dark ride and if the child doesn't like it, everyone will know!!

We've been back a few weeks and my 2 year old still asks if he can go ride the jungle cruise, Buzz, treehouse and even an occasional pirates. Thanks to the nice people at visions fantastic, we have videos of each ride that he will actually just sit and watch on repeat as long as I'll let him!!

Other things that were helpful for us were: to bring his stroller from home. It's big and bulky, but he's comfortable in it and it was easy to put a blanket over and let him sleep. We brought snacks that he eats regularly. Disneyland food for the kid set is trying to get healthier, but sometimes the sensory overload was too much and he wouldn't want to eat when we were eating. Freeze dried fruit snacks, cheese sticks, chewy granola bars and grapes were a true necessity for us.
I love my awesome crazy wonderful friends!!

"Do you remember in kindergarten, how you’d meet a kid,
then 10 seconds later you’d be playing like you were best friends?"

A 2 and 3 year old should be great fun! Just let them set the pace and don't push them.

Just one piece of advice - if you ride Mr. Toad, let them "drive." When I was a tyke it was the highlight of my day, swerving and steering as my dad would feign alarm at all of our near-misses.

Heck, I STILL like to steer on that ride.

Re: Going to Disneyland.......a few Questions....

We took all three of our daughters when they were two (two of them went long before they were two). They loved all the rides with the exception of Snow White. Toooo scary for them.

My youngest didn't like Haunted Mansion, but she's always gone on it with us. I swear, it's because she went on it at 10 months and was sitting on my husband's shoulders the first time we went on the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay in 2001 and Jack's face lit up in the shrinking room and that was it. She frrrrrreaked out (understandably!!) and hasn't loved it since then.

But she loves Nightmare Before Christmas.....looooves it.

Ironically, they all loved Matterhorn (just covered their eyes when it came to the Snowman....Harold, is it?) and were tall enough to go on it before turning three.

Enjoy your son's first day at Disneyland!! He'll most likely really like Small World, Autopia, Pooh, meeting Mickey (of course!), the Railroad, the Carousel, Tea Cups, and Dumbo. My kids really loved Dumbo as toddlers.

    Have fun!!
