    Employment: nuts?

So I'm 49, want to move back to California (from Texas) and want to work at Disneyland. Am I completely out of my mind? And yes, I already have a place to live.

Keep in mind that most positions at Disneyland start at 8-12 dollars per hour, and most positions are 25-35 hours a week .. so if you can support yourself on that wage, I say go for it.

    Re: Employment: nuts?

I'll probably do the same thing in a few years - I can now work a part time job at something I love NOT as something I need - so I'm sure working at DL for me is probably what I'll do also.

I'm bummed I'm not moving back to CA this time, but really I can't afford it - and my kids didn't want to move back right away - they said I was always broke and living in NM we won't be broke so we can do more. I guess thats a good way to look at it.

As my Dad gets older I'll probably move back (in YL) by him to take care of him - so in about 4-5 years thats where I'll be (as plans are now - but as we all know plans can change in a blink of an eye!)

I don't think your crazy - if you don't need to make a ton of money from a job go for it - it's nice for me to run my own business from home and then look for something outside the home that I REALLY want to do - not something I HAVE to do.

    I second that!

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

My friend is a retired firefighter that has been working at DL for the last few years. He loves it and makes around $11 an hour.

yeah it really depends on what position you are in. I was offered a position on Tuesday, and it was 8.20 an hour and would probably be around 30 hrs a week.
While it is my dream job, because I don't have a place to live, I can't take it.
I say if you have a place, you can afford to work at Disneyland and eat. Get a job there! Live out the dream when you can.

I agree, that if you think you can live on the wages go for it. Gas is much more expensive out there, as is rent (but you said you had a place). The only things I miss about CA are: Friends, Disneyland...and that is about it.

The irony is of course... The Disney Career cite calls it a dream job...

Hey maybe they are right you have to dream about a bigger pay check in order to get one...

Remember, Walt was a dreamer and a RISK taker. Look at what it did for him. In life, we need to take risks and hopefully the reward will be realized. I, too, am toying with the idea to return. I want to be at a employer I love and Disneyland is that one for me. Shoot for your dreams, sometimes you have to make sacrifices to achieve the long term goal.
