    Monorail Refurb: Updates, Questions, Suggestions

I really love the monorail and was curious on what the new Refurb updates are, besides a new coat of paint and entrance / exit refurb...Will there be anything new with the trains?

I would really love to see the costumes up there get a little extra touch to them, conductor hats and conductor pins in addition (like that of the steamtrains) would be a really cool addition...Last time I remember I rode the monorail with my family, the costumes we're very plain and boring unlike that of the steamtrains and just a button down white shirt and maroon pants...Who agrees with me?

The rumor on the street is that we'll be getting a new fleet of Monorails in 2008 that resemble the classic monorails. Solid colors, more stylized futuristic look... no fins though. I for one can't wait for that to become a reality!

Re: Monorail Refurb: Updates, Questions, Suggestions

When the Monorail returns in Mid-December, the only real change will be to the Tomorrowland Station, which has gotten a new entrance ramp, new loading gates and a general refurb.

They will be using two of the old Monorails, while they are working on building almost new ones, the first is expected to show up at the park around Summer of 2007 (subject to change). The Monorails will work in "Shuttle" mode for the first half of 2007 (one way service using only the DCA portion of the track).

    Why only in shuttle mode?

Part of the track will not be accessible, therefore the attraction will be in shuttle mode - one-way trips on the same stretch of track.

The new monorails will be a welcome addition. It's good to see that they are sprucing up Tomorrowland and adding some "new" features.

That, and the old monorails are really in sad condition.

Here is a question. Why don't they add a station stop to DCA? back when they were building the Grand Californian Hotel I thought they would add a station stop there but it never happened. Was it another budget cut casualty? How about a monorail stop at the parking structure?

If it stopped in DCA, there would be free travel between the two parks via Monorail.

As for a stop at DCA, it was discussed, but the decision was NOT to do it, maybe for money issues, but a lot of it had to do with ticketing issues, remember when the park first opened, very few people had access to ParkHoppers, and many AP's were for just Disneyland, so to deal with who could enter would have been a logistical nightmare. Plus the desire to have more folks walk thru Downtown Disney.

As for the Parking Structure, it doesn't work, as the Monorail tends to have a regular capacity flow per hour, and it is very hard to increase the capacity per hour. Trams can be added, additional loading areas can be used in the first few hours in the morning, and after the parades/fireworks, if everyone had to take the Monorail, the wait would be AWFUL!!!!

What I don't get is how our monorail system is so inferior to the complex, well kept monorail system at Magic Kingdom. We should have something like them.

The Monorail system at WDW serves as a counterpart to our tram system. They stop outside the park, unlike at Disneyland, and therefore do not have to conform to scale.
