Re: Fate of Old Ride Vehicles (Long Post!)

(IMHO Only) I think a large majority of everything Disneyland replaces is stored away no matter how old it is. Even if some of it gets Auctioned off I have no doubt DLR saves everything because they are well known to reuse old rides to make new ones.

Storing stuff is pretty expensive though - so I doubt that WDI saves every ride vehicle. They have a nasty habit of throwing away models that took hours of creative work to make - just because they don't have enough storage space.

As others have mentioned - several ride vehicles live on in static displays. At Disneyland there were ride vehicles inside of the old Premiere Shop/LGM Store Command shop, there are vehicles on display at the Eat Ticket (I can't remember which ones exactly - but I do remember a vehicle from the Motor Boat Cruise was there).

There's also a three car PeopleMover train on display at the TDA casting center - one where you can actually go up, sit down, and take pictures - if you were brave enough to do it with security watching your every move.

If you ever have the chance to head up to the commissary at WDI - you can sit on the outside patio which includes several PeopleMover cars, skyway buckets, and other ride vehicles.

As for the other vehicles it would be kind of sketchy. Take the atomobiles for example. Since they share a lot in common with the doombuggies from the Mansion, they would probably be saved for parts - and in the course of the last 20 years, they've probably been used to replace broken and worn out parts on the doombuggies.

I would guess the same is true for most of the other Disneyland vehicles. Some of them... like the Indy Vehicles.... cost several million dollars each - so the idea of just junking a whole car is silly. But as certain parts wear out, or need to be replaced - the junked parts are removed and tossed.

Makes the most sense to me.

One question: If you bought the Monorail car, where the HECK would you put the thing?

That's sad. From Disneyland to Mexico. I would love an Indy vehicle. I would customize it and make it street legal.
