    Lost Children

Last night when visiting the "Gerber Center" (I know it has a newer name but it will always be the GC to me) there were three lost children waiting to be picked up by their families. One had been there for FIVE hours and still waiting. She was about nine years old and I overheard her saying to the clerk that she had been 'lost' before and also that her family was going to be in the Park until closing (midnight) so it might be awhile longer before someone collected her. (!!!) Is this the new babysitting? Is it possible that a group could split up for five hours or longer and one part think that the child was with the other part of the group? I tried to not be worried for the rest of the evening, but this really concerned me.

It seems this day in age, more and more parents care less about their children and where they are. I hate seeing moms or dads who are screaming at their child for something they did wrong that any other kid would have done.

Five hours?! And she was only about 9?!

That is sooo upsetting. The child gets to sit in a room and wait with strangers for HOURS while her family is off having fun in Disneyland.
That's just !! How careless of the family.

How can her parents/guardian not notice?

my question is, why did they not call the police?? why have a child wait for five hours for a parent ? I would have called after an hour or 2. this is just wrong. Evidently this kids are lost a lot and both parents need to have a lesson on keeping your children with you and being better parents!
this is so sad on so many levels, so so sad..

    Re: Lost Children

wow! now I don't feel so bad about having lost some of my day camp kids for a few minutes in the park! We take groups of kids and the leader to child ratio is 1 to 12. That means 12 kids and me as the only person to watch them.

Two summers ago I lost 3 kids for about 5 minutes and I was freaking out! The kids that were lost were really freaked out too and they were all 9 or 10. We had gone on Indiana Jones and we had to be split into 2 cars. 3 went in the car in front and then the rest of us were in one car. I had told them to wait at the gate where they let you out. I didn't realize that on this ride, even though you may load on the same side, you may exit on different sides. The 3 kids were on the other side and I couldn't find them. It was a very nerve racking 5 minutes!! I was all freaked out and I knew that the 3 of them were together(this makes me feel better, safety in numbers and all that), I would probably have a heart attack if I lost a single kid for 5 hours!

We let our jr high kids run around the parks in groups of 3 without leaders but we have check in times every 3 hours for them and if they are even a minute late to their check in time, they are shackled to a leader for the rest of the day!

To let your kid wander around alone and not notice for 5 hours is ridiculous!

I would have called child protective services.

Please, when I have kids and if I ever do that, I give everyone here permission to find me and slap me upside the head, all 10,000 of you.

    Re: Lost Children

Ok if my son got lost (after I get over the heart attack) I would NOT let him sit there for 5 hours...I would get him in 5 minutes...no 5 seconds!

That is INFURIATING! I mean what the heck are these parents doing for 5 hours that it takes that long?! This kinda stuff really is the only thing that will send me over the friggin' edge!

And yes on calling Child Protective Services.....

What would happen if a few hours after the park closed they didnt find the parents? Would the child be driven home or put in foster care?

I am sure that if the worker could, she would call CPS, Its quite possible the lead prevented her for doing it. What I don't get is why they didn't call the parents over the PA system 'the disneyland opperator paging so and so' type thing

Five hours? thats sick? I'm surprised the girl wasnt a hysterical mess
