Monorail reopening has been delayed until at least December 21st

Well, the construction to the Monorail Station and surrounding area has caused a delay in the Monorail reopening, as the CM's who work the attraction have been told that no shifts will be available, and that they need to work other attractions for another week.

So it looks like the 21st or the 22nd will have the return of the Monorails....

Let's see, Monorails Blue and Orange are in Toronto getting rebuilt - so they only have Red and Purple at the park, right?

(Yes, and the Red and Blue Tractors and the work trailers, but they can't take passengers on those...)

^That is about right, two Monorails are in Canada, but on the WEST Coast (British Columbia), not the East Coast were Toronto is located.

They plan to operate the Monorail in Shuttle Mode for the next few months to allow for work to continue on the Sub Lagoon. This requires only one Monorail to be on the track at a time, so they have one out, and one as a spare in case the other one breaks down.

I was hoping for some new angles to take photos of the Sub Lagoon from, but looks like I will have to wait another week... oh well, following the construction, I am not surprised that the project is running late.

the longer, the better for whats left of the monorails... since shuttle mode does a wonder on those engines.

Sums up my thoughts on the matter exactly.

Suppose we shall have to get by, taking sub pics from the Autopia & Innoventions for the time being, won't we?

btw, happy 4,000th post Darkbeer, or do we not observe things like that?...

No, the new monorails won't be here until the spring of 2007 at the earliest.

Yes - this is their second rebuild into "New" trains. Just think of it as a "Monster Garage" chassis-up rebuild, but on a massive scale.

From the looks of it they are taking the old bodies off, checking and repairing the original 1967-ish Mark-III train car chassis as needed, rebuilding the suspension and running gear, new bodies, new chassis electronics and control systems that meet modern safety standards, and we will have a set of "New" Monorail trains. (This is a recap, it's been discussed to death elsewhere.)

Exactly what they are doing to the trains in the rehab process is still open to speculation - but the basic rule still applies: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Figment1986: I honestly can't see where Shuttle Mode would be any harder on the trains than going one direction (Forward) all day. They already replaced the power pickup shoes with ones that can operate in either direction, I thought that was the only real problem point. If you know of any others, please enlighten me.

Whoa! I bet there are going to be some DLH guest complaints on that delay. Yikes.

I am not surprised. The darn thing has been all torn up and dusty(sage??) the last few times I've gotten pictures back there.
It should be worth the wait. But can you tell me where that Monorail boarding area will be? It's from the left side of the platform, on top of the Sub queue, correct?

I thought the DLR monorails specifically had one end... and remember hearing that even thought they have been replacing parts.. the monorails still don't like shuttle mode and shut down more frequently than if they had the ability to do forward 99% of the time. they were designed to go forward with barely going backward at all... Something the newer "mark" might have fixed just in case i would figure.
