Disneyland bringing sub ride out of mothballs

This is from the OC Register presented by MSNBC, and I thought it was quite interesting. It talks about when the ride will open and when they will fill it!

ANAHEIM — Construction workers are in the final stages of building a lagoon of glass-covered rocks, pliable coral and starfish for the re-opening of Disneyland's submarine ride.
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is set to open in June, nearly nine years after the previous sub attraction was shut down partly because of unpopularity.
Disney officials gave a sneak peak of the construction Thursday before workers fill the lagoon with water in the first week of January. The same submarines are being refurbished to continue to be used in the new ride.

Finally some answers!

There will likely be a preview/teaser for the Subs on the WDW Christmas Parade special on Christmas day. When I was watching Ryan Seacrest film intro for the Disneyland segments, he did one for for a Sub teaser. (A Space Mt./Screamin' teaser, too.)

I strongly disagree with this statement. The Submarine Voyage was not closed due to it's unpopularity. That's the same excuse they used for the closure of the Skyway and Peoplemover . I don't ever recall going to Disneyland and seeing absolutly nobody in line for the Subs (of course the exception is off season weekdays). They closed it because of the high maintenance and staffing costs. It was one of the many victims of the Pressler Penny Pinching Plan.

You'll have to note that they only said "partly" due to its unpopularity. Which is partly true, though it wasn't the real reason it closed. But towards the end of its life the lines were far shorter than when I was younger and even I didn't go on that ride as often. And then before I knew it, GONE. Closed.

I look forward to riding it once again though.

Watching the Disneyland '59 special, I feel kinda ripped off that we never got real mermaids in there!

You might want to check under OC register, don't know why but the link has the MSNBC logo in the upper left but the article itself is from the register. original post edited to include this info.

Re: Disneyland bringing sub ride out of mothballs

Is there something in this article we didn't know? We knew they were re-using the old Subs basically since before the 'official' announcement back in May '05.
