Disney Gallery to significantly cut hours

    http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=64017

After January 7th, the Disney Gallery will begin a new reduced operating schedule.

It will be closed altogether on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Friday through Sunday it will open at noon and close two hours before the park (I think those may be the same hours as currently, not sure about the current closing time).

How sad! I hope it's only temporary. I always enjoy going to look at the exhibits. It's a shame to let such a nice attraction go to waste.

AUGH! why??? I love the Disney Gallery and go in everytime! I spend more there than anywhere else in the park.

hmm... maybe this is a good thing.

    That's unfortunate.

Is this cut due to staffing issues, numbers, or just the fact that January 7th is the official start of the off season?

If you can't do stairs, ask for assistance in the store right next to the bottom of the stairs (Pieces of Eight?). Anyways its right next to the Royal St. Veranda where you get the soup in a breadbowl. They will call upstairs for you and a cast member will come down and escort you by elevator to the Disney Gallery.

We did this in October when my wife was recovering from foot surgery. I'm not telling what you see, but you do briefly go backstage and you completely eliminate the stairs. You might have to wait a few minutes if they're busy, but it's New Orleans Square, so why rush?

I am usually only able to get over to Disneyland in the mornings, and have often been disappointed that it didn't open until noon. Now to have it completely closed during the week will mean I won't see anything in it again until Summer....IF they bump the hours back up.

I guess it wasn't getting enough traffic and they weren't selling enough merchandise.

I bet its just because January 7th is off season time and a good time to change the gallery around?

I hope this is not permanent. The Disney Gallery is the only place in the park where I spend money for stuff besides food.

What a shame. I'll be there for my birthday at the end of next month (on a weekday) and was planning on taking My Beloved in there to do some serious hinting.

I am not in love with the four days a week closing...but I remember when Disneyland itself was closed every Monday and Tuesday during the off season so it will just require some planning during the winter. But what I really like the sound of is the moving out of the logowear, reproductions, etc. and using the gallery for originals, and limited production works of art. This is a move in the right direction for Disneyland. We really need a return to shops that sell unique merchandise rather than every store carrying the same stuff.

Reminds me of what they did a few years ago with some attractions opening later in the day or closing early. I think Pirates was one of them. The park would open at 9am and the ride wouldn't open untill 11 or so and then the park would close at midnight at the ride would close at 10 or 11. It was the stupidest thing to do and people complained enough at City Hall that they thankfully ended that little cost cutting experiment.
