Re: Steakhouse 55 photos and review

Well with Frogberto's recommendation and the fact that there's no decent place to eat in the park (i go to the good places all too often so i wanted something different), me and a buddy headed to Steakhouse 55.

    STILL WITHOUT A SIGN.

But I imagine it would look like this eventually..

I had the Porterhouse Steak, 18oz which was $28. It was delicious but I really should have asked for Medium Rare, as the medium was a little overdone.

Before you order though, you do get a loaf of Sourdough bread (the kind that tastes great with clam chowder!). It's served HOT which is awesome. The bread is all you can eat though I don't recommend it if you want room for your meat!

Oh and how could I not add on the yukon gold SMASHED potatoes for $6 more?

My buddy had the special, which was a filet mignon platter that was $36. I had a bite of it and it was marvelous.

My porterhouse steak though doesn't compare with the best I've ever had at Delmonico in Las Vegas... though that's emeril's restaurant so I guess there's no comparison. But it's still very very good. I advise for medium rare.

Rum & Coke was only $6.75.

And I didn't have room for dessert but my friend had the creme brulee for $8. Again, i tried it and it was very very very good.

So that's really it. Frogberto already provided the good photos of how the place kinda looks so I'll save my internet space on those.

I liked it and the service was pretty good, though I think the background music could be better... and not repeat every half hour. We heard the same tunes three times each.

Re: Steakhouse 55 photos and review

Frogberto's wife and Coheteboy both had steaks that were not cooked as ordered. That is an unforgivable sin in the steakhouse world. In fact, I had the same problem at Granville's last spring (medium-rare as cooked medium). The next time I asked for rare and got my preferred medium-rare--but that's not how it's supposed to work. Still, it's a very good restaurant but with Morton's open and Ruth's Chris coming soon, the bar has been raised. But Napa Rose is still tops in the area.

I had that medium-rare problem at Blue Bayou. The waiter mistakenly thought I said medium for my filet mignon. When we cleared that up, he said it was no problem to get me another one. But the medium-rare filet sure seemed like medium to me. I even wondered if perhaps they just gave me the same one but labeled it differently and laughed about it in the kitchen. I didn't request another one until the waiter volunteered it so I don't see why they would do that. Maybe the standards at the DLR are different than we're used to. They do get a lot of tourists and I think they may be less used to rare meat than Californians.

I can't eat at steakhouses....thy won't cook my steak the way I like it...almost burnt. Anyway, has anyone ever told you that your wife looks a bit like Britney Spears? Only much prettier? And classier?

Looks the same to me.....they probably just raised the prices and signage. Still like the place, but not one of my favorite Steakhouses around. Morton's and Ruth Chris's are much better!

My wife and I have eaten there when it was still Granvilles on several occassions. I ordered the porterhouse the last time we were there. I told the waiter I'd like my steak charred on the outside and barely body temperature on the inside and if I can't taste the blood the steak is ruined. What I got was barely on the rare side - being overcooked. But there was still blood so I was happy. (It gives you such a rush!!)

The service was perfect however, the atmosphere sublime and having the manager come by to chat was a nice touch.

Anyone else tried their eggs benedict? Egg perfection!

I'm with you on the not ordering steak, though I wouldn't have had fish either

Looks nice, but those stripes on the booth made my eyes cross!

Not ordering steak at a steakhouse? And I've had (and very much enjoyed) the eggs benedict.
