Thanks for the live report, MasterGracey. I thought it was crowded last week when I was there, but it was nothing compared what you're showing us today. Yikes!

nice report... Glad I chose to go elsewhere.

Disneyland was so much nicer on NYE a few years back when the park was pulling in only 12 million guests. (I only say that because thats where I went in 2001 - 2003.)

Re: New Year's Eve 2007 - News and Running Report Thread

The Christmas Fantasy Parade is running up Main Street and isn't even over yet... but crowds are so heavy they're directing traffic Backstage behind the Main Street Buildings to exit the park or to get to the end of Main Street.

    It's busy, busy, busy!

Re: New Year's Eve 2007 - News and Running Report Thread

FYI - Parade is leaving Main Street, heading towards Small World Mall, and as the last float passes Guests, many of them are exiting the park.

PEOPLE ARE STILL ENTERING THE PARK! Admission has not been stopped. However, I do not know if ticket sales are halted.

CMs at the Main Gate exit turnstyles are telling Guests that with a ticket and handstamp, you will have no problem getting back in the park. Not sure if numbers aren't as high as they expected, or if CMs are just misinformed.

A CM at the New Century Timepieces shop on Main Street was telling me that 50% of Cast Members have called in sick or just haven't shown up to work becuase they've been scheduled bizarre shifts. CMs who normally work early day, for example, are being given 8-hour shifts ending around 2:30 or 3am.

    The Park is miserably understaffed.

While I was talking to the CM in the watch shop, she was notified by a fellow cast member that her shift had been given a MANDATORY EXTENTION. Instead of going home at 7:30 after her 8 hour shift, she was going to have to stay for a 12-hour shift, getting her out of the Park at 11:30pm.

CMs aren't happy, and with the park as understaffed as it is, its understandable.

If you encounter a grouchy CM don't take it personally, don't get upset with them. Its a rough, rough day for them. Sure, sucking it up and putting on a happy face is what CMs should be doing, but the circumstances are different tonight, folks. Don't get upset with CMs.

Yes and no. You're there for bragging rights only in my opinion. But it's also to say that you really WERE at the biggest party in Orange County. And if you go with absolutely no intentions of going on any rides, you will and can enjoy yourself.

I remember back when I was a CM working New Year's Eve, it was a party for us as well. Back where the Festival of Fools arena was, it was cleared out for sodas, food, pool tables, music, and raffles for CMs on break. We'd all wave to the train passing by because we were all costumed CMs, drinking and eating in front of guests. But it was New Year's Eve so it was definitely understandable.

My shift ended pretty lousy too at 11:30p.m. But by the time you get back to your department to clean up, close out, etc etc... it's well beyond midnight. No chance of going anywhere else for New Year's... but for me, there was no place I'd rather be! I just went back into the CM party area and had a blast, waited for other CM buddies to get off work and we all hit up Denny's across the street around 3:30am.

It was pretty fun looking back and though it was crazy, I would definitely go back and do it again.

in my opinion, its fun to do once, but i highly doubt i would ever do it again. it just played with my claustraphobia WAY too much. i don't mind crowds, but i mind crowds where i can't move AT ALL, and that's what it was like in front of the caslte in '92

Oh boo-hoo. They're going to call in sick because they were scheduled to work until 3am? It's Disneyland and it's New Years. It's not unreasonable to be asked to work that late, even if you normally work during the day. Cry me a river. What a horrible work ethic. Go in and do your job.
