Where's the sex and violence from the 50th show?

I just came from Disneyland today and finished with the 50th show with Steve Martin. In the lobby are early drawings and photos from the Jungle Cruise showing lions holding bloody zebra parts in their mouths! Of course there was also the burning cabin and the settler with the "arrow shirt" and other hints of historical and natural violence throughout Disneyland. Has Disney gone soft? I sometimes feel I'm not getting the "Director's Cut" of Disneyland these days.

Even more important than the violence is sex. Now I know our European brothers will say Americans have a serious problem with sex, but there was no evidence of that in the Steve Martin film which features the Mermaids, Saloon Girls (The only reason to visit the old west according the Mr. Martin), and of course, the Hula Dancers! What a cruel taunt that movie is, showing how good the park *use* to be. Even Steve Martin's favorite store on Main Street, the corset shop is gone!

Hopefully Disneyland will stop with the infintile stuff and get adult friendly again. That said, I was very pleased tonight to see even more stuff fixed, working, and looking great! Fairly light crowds today as well.

Yeah, bring it all back. I don't like revisionist history.

I know Walt would've wanted it. He's the reason why the mermaids were shelless and I remember hearing a story about how he was a bit upset over all the frilly pants that the can-can dancers were wearing on its a small world (which is kinda creepy, when you think about it...).

In todays PC world I don't see things reversing back to what they used to be. Personally I miss the burning cabin and massacred settler. Somehow they thought it was too graphic for young guests. But here is the funny thing about making the park more kid friendly. The amount of skeletons and skulls in the park is really astounding if you actually stop and count them all. Think of all the skulls in the park. Kinda strange if you think about it.

That's because there's been a lot of "non-compliant" guests to be dealt with...

Disneyland has had most of its metaphoric sharp edges filed down over the years. But I bet that in most cases it's a cost driven rasping with a PC excuse.
    Disney FAQ#275: What is DCA?
DCA stands for Disney Construction Area. All the Cast Members are themed with hard hats and steel toed boots.

And the same reasoning that went into the removal of the pirates/frontierman guns you used to be able to buy in the park ( Yes I have on that I got on my honeymoon in '98)

I should have titled this thread, "Disneyland: Director's Cut", because the 50th show seems to show Disneyland the way Walt (and most adults) liked it.

It's just a matter of time before even Disney villians, in yet another ironic twist, are considered unsuitable as Disney Family Entertainment(tm). They'll have to replace them with the new villian of the Disney bottom line, the parent who won't buy their kid all the plush toys and candy they want.

Perhaps the success of the PG-13 Dead Man's Chest will convince Disney to lose this insistence on the part of some of the executives to only serve pablum.

I remember those I always kinda wanted one, and on one trip, I was determined to buy one for myself for a costume for Halloween (my best friend and I were dressing up as Anne Bonny and Mary Read)...and they were gone.

You can still get them, just not in the California Parks - it's state law that prevents the sale of those "realistic" guns, not Disney.
