    Trans fat phase-out & McDonald's fries

    Hey all,
I remember hearing a while back that Disney was going to get rid of trans-fats in the parks. Does anyone know how this will affect the McDonalds fries that are being sold now? As in, will they stop using trans fats to fry the fries, or is McDonalds being booted from the park? I meant to ask someone last time I was there, but didn't get to it.
    Thanks

I could be very wrong on this, but some time ago I remember hearing that they were no longer going to be offering McDonalds food in any of its parks. Also, they were no longer going to be promoting their products through McDonalds Happy Meals.

So far this hasn't occurred, so I don't know what the latest news on this is.

McDonalds went through a noisy PR round of eliminating animal fats from the fry vats a few years back - - now they have to eliminate the transfats that replaced the lard.

the deal was to change the contract to a movie by movie basis.... and the deal for in parks was a different contract i think. but was extended.... The fry carts / hotdog place was still open in WDW.. in fact the hotdog place opened after the contract issues.

But i thought they made a big deal before the themeparks did about trans fat.

As far as I can tell, trans fats are the nasty oils, so eliminating them should probably mean an improved taste.

Ever had fries cooked in lard? Mmmm!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Throw McDonalds out of DL. Replace them with an A&W rootbear stand.

    Yum.

Me too! I like In & Out fries. And I thought the contract with McDonalds ended this past summer? With the only exception for happy meal toys being pirates?

I apologize for getting off topic and also if this has been answered before but why do they only sell McDonalds fries and not Hamburgers or Chicken McNuggets? My friends and I were wondering this the last time I was there.

    Re: Trans fat phase-out & McDonald's fries

Last I heard, McDonalds had already been forced to switch to transfat free frying oil in other countries, but would not switch in the US until forced to. Perhaps Disney has forced them just for the fries sold in the parks.

Still too much salt, starch, and fat to make them worth eating for most, but if just one Disney customer lives just a few decades longer from this decision, I'm all for it!

From what I've heard, a lot of fast food places in the US are switching to becoming trans-fat free...I don't know if McDonald's is one of them, though.

They will be re-formulating the product, taking out the Fat; but an automated system will be put in place to accomodate the guests who liked the old-style fries--it's called FATPASS.

    Re: Trans fat phase-out & McDonald's fries

    From the McDonald's site:

Q: What is the status of the trans fatty acid reduction at McDonald's?

A: McDonald's continues to work hard to achieve our goals for reducing trans fatty acids (TFAs). Our customers trust McDonald's to do the right thing and expect us to get it right for them and that’s what we’re doing. We’ve already made progress and have reduced TFA levels in our Chicken McNuggets, Crispy Chicken and McChicken offerings.

As we reported in February of 2003, the change has taken longer than anticipated, but we are continuing with ongoing tests. As previously stated, we've added TFA information to our nutrition information materials, including Nutrition Facts brochures and trayliners found in our restaurants and right here on our Web site.

    Re: Trans fat phase-out & McDonald's fries

McDonald's Fries are the only thing at McDonald's I like nowadays. That being said, I still can't eat them because of the Trans Fats. I'm on a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet. And well, McDonald's fries just don't satisfy any of those requirements.

But once they get rid of them, I'll have to check the updated nutritional information and see how much cholesterol's in them. If it's a lot, well, I'll have to continue living without the majesty of McDonald's French Fries.
