    Re: Disneyland report for a 9 year old

    Smell: For me and many others, the pleasant aroma of steam, hot oil and diesel smoke wafting about the entrance tunnels always means I've entered Disneyland. And the smell of popcorn gets me every time.

    Touch: Disneyland is so tactile. Every land has things that can be felt: The bricks on Main Street; the stonework on Indiana Jones; the leather straps holding the railings together alongside the paths on TSI; the brass bats that form the railings in HM; the smooth enamel on the wooden carousel horses; the side of the Matterhorn.

    Taste: The fried goodness of a Monte Cristo; the delicate faux-butter flavor of the popcorn;

    Sound: The locomotive bells clanging as the train rolls to a stop at Main Street Station; the deep bass of "YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!..."; the Mark Twain's throaty whistle, echoing across the river and through the park; The sharp "POP POP" as a hippo meets his maker on the Jungle Cruise; The loud AaaOoooGah! of a Main Street horseless carriage horn.

    I didn't even go into "sight." There are so many things one could write about. I'm not sure a 9 year-old would even need help with an assignment such as this!

    He does...he keeps drawing blanks...he has alot of the things people have written about, but this report has to be long. He loves the park so much but I think in his excitment in writing this, he keeps forgetting the things he loves.

    I take it you've never touched it before, else you'd have fewer fingers with which to type. I hunt and peck by default!
    Moral of story: do NOT touch the HM wallpaper! Each one of those "faces" is real! REAL, I TELL YOU!!!!

    And......scene.

    I thought is was kind of velvety. Maybe it's just my imagination.

    Here are some ideas:

    He can describe the fresh smell of the baked pastries on Main Street (Smell), Describe the snow covered Swiss Matterhorn that breaks the skyline and overshadows the Submarine Lagoon (Sight), He can describe the charming instrumental melodies played on Main Street that really fit the time period of the 1900's as America was on the turn of the century Or the Jazz filled atmosphere of New Orleans Square OR the grim, ghostly music that eerily penitrates the air in the Haunted Mansion, etc. (Hearing), and possibly talk about holding on tight during such thrill rides as Splash Mountain, Tower of Terror, etc. (Touch).

    I would suggest he come on line and ask himself. THis would allow him to ask us specific questions and dialog with the posters himself - thus giving him another experience related to DL and more indepth apporach to his report.

    This is a great idea! Unfortunately I'm pretty sure someone will find a way to turn his thread into an AP-bashing thread!
