I walk or bicycle but yeah let's just say it's a really quick trip from work to home for me. I also work at DCA so I'm usually off by 5 or 6.

...It would be creepy for me too!

Back on topic, I agree that Disney can't control the area. I hope Anaheim does keep the area safe for all the families staying there. I never have had any problems...

    Re: Peddlers on Harbor Blvd.

Eh, let them make a living. It isn't even as bad as say, Las Vegas or Santa Monica. I've only ever seen one or two guys there on busy weekends. The vast majority of the time when I go across the street to get something to get, they are not there.

I don't get this idea that Anaheim is unsafe and seedy. I grew up here and never ever had an incident with crime. A neighbor got his toolbox stolen once but that was it. The area within historic Anaheim has some very nice neighborhoods that I would love to live in again.

Drive down Harbor sometime, make a left at North St. and drive up and down Citron St. That's where I grew up and I wouldn't have traded it for anything. It's a very nice neighborhood.

I might agree with you the closer you get to the borders of Fullerton and Garden Grove, but they are no where near the level of South Central or Compton, places that I have spent a lot of time in myself. Even then, South Central isn't as dangerous as people say, as long as you mind your own business.

When I was 17-19 I walked to work at Disneyland. I never ever felt unsafe.

Damn, people, if you consider Anaheim seedy and unsafe then where the hell can you live in Southern California?

    Re: Peddlers on Harbor Blvd.

Anaheim can pass ordinances and enforce them. I'm sure that there are probably a few of them already on the books that would apply to peddling on the street. So, you might want to raise the issue with Disney. The company can either ask the city to police the sidewalks better or lobby the city for new legislation.

Incidentally, the crime data for Anaheim shows that it is below the national average in every area, except for vehicle thefts.

What is the difference between the Timeshare people on Harbor Blvd (they are out there in the Morning hours). They have permission from the hotels (who get paid) and they stay on the hotel property, and the DVC booths at Disneyland, DCA, DtD and the Disney owned Hotels?

Just because its Disney, its OK?

Get those DVC stands out of the parks!!!

That's true. This is even true for cities like Santa Ana and Stanton -- which is the city with Orange County's lowest income per capita.

What is happening now is that you see more and more families sharing houses, especially in low income areas with a larger population of minorities. No longer are many houses occupied by just parents and children. It is increasingly common now to see a household in these areas containing any combination of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, or cousins. This is how people who live at or below the poverty line can afford to live in such expensive houses and apartments in these areas. They take care of each other.

This isn't anything new. It's always been this way in the Hispanic community.

And it isn't always because of poverty. In my family grandparents didn't go to a nursing home to sit there alone and die. The rest of the family took care of them. That's why you'd see parents and grandparents living in the same house. I'm sure a lot of other Hispanic families did the same thing.

So when you see 30 Mexicans crammed into a house together, don't immediately think "poor".
