I agree. Does this signal a "creative abandonment" of DCA? I suppose only time will tell; also I suppose that nothing will be done with this 3rd Park proposal in the near future.
Though in the minority, I still think DCA can be a fun, successful Park, and I believe it deserves a "new start", rather than resources being focused toward building a muti-million dollar "decoy" next to DCA. Who knows? Disney works in mysterious ways....(insert weird creepy whistling sound effect here)

Hear, hear. They have the template to the perfect theme park,I don't know why they don't use it more often

I completely agree. Not just DCA though, Disneyland still needs some TLC especially on its' west side.....there's a reason Adventureland is so crowded all the time...it's because Tomorrowland isn't.

    What water park is closing?

I agree that DCA needs to be fixed first, before anything else gets done. Then we need something back on the PeopleMover tracks, maybe an update to Star Tours, and eventually, though not necessarily a preference, clean up the mess of lawyers in Toontown and just make it an extension of Fantasyland...stick in more dark rides and a House of Mouse or (my boyfriend suggested this) a Beauty and the Beast "be Our Guest" restaraunt.

Then they should make another park.

Gotta prioritize instead of ignore the issues at hand.

I don't think Disney would make much of a profit because the weather isn't always warm in SoCal.

No, the new park is not themed to Toy Story..........

It's going to be Pirates land with Johnny Depp

that and the lure of the beach so close isn't going away anytime soon. I don't foresee a third park happening in the next decade, at least opening. It may get planned and begin construction, but they need that time to do whatever they're doing at DCA first and then focus of a third park.

Have to love all the Californians asking if Disney can make money on a water park in LA. To all of you that must ask, look up the Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. That town has not one, not two but three outdoor waterparks, one of which is the largest in the country. They are open Memorial Day to Labor Day, and still make plenty of money. My bet is that the shortest season a park in LA would have would be a mid April through Columbus Day, it would make plenty of money.

I hope so too but given their budget and space, I wouldn't count on it. I'm guessing it will be a water park at best, or something on par with DCA (which cost a pretty penny too).

One main drawback to Water Parks in California is Labor and Safety Laws, requiring a large amount of Lifeguards to be working at any one time. So that is a major expense. Most Water Parks charge around $20 to $30 in the area, so the profit really isn't that much.

Plus Southern California has a lot of water parks already with Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, Wild Rivers, Raging Waters, 3 Soak City parks, and now Spalsh Canyon opening this summer in Temecula.

One drawback to a water park is that many of us don't want to take our shirts off in public.

Unless you want to call the new park Phat Beach.

I heard many years ago that Disney bought the land to build a waterpark on it. But, I know, plans can change quickly...

I know that you have to look ahead and plan for the future, but I still see problems that need addressing within the original park, much less DCA or this possible "third" gate. First things first, Disney.
