Ah! But it may come back! [Settler's Cabin]

Disneyland Guide Maps and the $4.00 artistic style maps still to this day show the Settler's Cabin Burning. A tribute to nostalga? Or A Sign of Revival? You Decide!

Hopefully the Tom Sawyer Island refurbishment and Pirate's Lair additions will be the revival of the Settler's Cabin. Instead of being killed by Indians, he will be murdered by looting Pirates!

If anything, that Cabin ought to be on fire again. There's little excuse as to why it isn't on fire.

I know one. Because no one dreams of getting their cabin set ablaze. Therefore it's not a Disney Dream Come True(R), and Disneyland is Where Dreams Come True(R). So it wouldn't fit!

But for the sadistic guests out there, seeing the misfortune of a settler may be a Dream Come True.

Appealing to the modern American audience, overexposed to violence and trained to gain personal pleasure out of other's misfortune. Ingenious! Why MasterGracey, the entire Dreams campaign is sorely missing this fundamental part of dream fulfillment!

Re: Ah! But it may come back! [Settler's Cabin]

Considering until very recently even many Imagineers were unaware of the Pirate's Lair overhaul, I believe that any previous thoughts of what was going to happen to the island that were held have now gone out the window. In essence, whether the cabin lights up again or not, I have no idea, but the artistic maps are certainly no hint as what is going on at this point otherwise they would have had pirates running around on the island.

Perhaps this sadism hasn't been missing. Maybe the suits in TDA are getting pleasure out of seeing us react in such anguish to the graffiti and moat swans.

I think part of the reason why the cabin isn't bruning anymore is that there's a problem with the mechanisms that create the effect (of course PC had a lot to do with it).

I don't think the maps will give us any real indicator. The cabin is obviously still there, it's just not on fire and doesn't have a dead person laying on the ground.

As far as effects go - it's a pretty mild set piece with a huge cost.

They might as well take a pile of money and set it on fire. There's just no reason to have it there. If anything relighting the fire would only bring down upon them a hail of environmentalists and energy conservationists.

There's really no reason to have half as many stars floating around in Space Mountain, they could save lots of money on electricity and maitenance by turning off those expensive projection machines and mirror balls.

There's really no need to have the fire go off in Indiana Jones Adventure. I'm sure the gas bill for the attraction alone is pretty high up there.

And there's certainly no reason to have the so much traffic on the Rivers of America. They can just completely remove the Mark Twain and save some money.

But the devils in the details, atmosphere, and themeing.

It doesn't matter if something is insignificant. It's all about the show, and that burning cabin adds to the overall "show" that a ride on the Disneyland Railroad, Mark Twain, Sailing Ship Columbia, or Indian Canoes presents.
