Re: Replacement for the Main Street Cinema

i'm in the camp that says "leave the thing alone!" It's great and is the ONLY thing in the entire park that acknowledges that it all started with a mouse. It shows Mickey at his most primitive state and nobody who comes to Disneyland should have that option taken away from them. Nobody.

Who cares if the shorts don't have sound? They're still hilarious anyway. (Yah, remember when Mickey Mouse was funny?).

It's sad what happened to Magic Kingdom's cinema. I'm glad that ours is still a working cinema!

I'm also the person who offered an attraction, entitled "It All Started with a Mouse", for the California park in this thread:

Idea for DCA Hub: Disney's Hyperion Studios

By taking guests back in time to Walt Disney's formative years in Chicago, Marceline, and Kansas City on Main Street, U.S.A. and to his earliest interest in filmmaking and animation, the company can, then, make the California park something truly wonderful by dedicating its entrance to the founding of the Disney Bros. Studio and to the advent of Mickey Mouse.

One has to visualize both parks holistically and see the ways in which they can complement each other. Dramatic unities need to be established between Main Street, U.S.A. and the California park so that guests passing through the Main Entry Plaza are taken to 1923 when they enter D.C.A. and to 1955 when they exit the newer park.

They had never seen a black and white Mickey cartoon before but were obviously enjoying themselves tremendously.
I took my 8 year old son in there recently and was absolutely shocked that he actually loved the place! He mentioned, "That's Pete!" in one of the catoons. I asked, "Where have you hear of him?" I was for sure he wouldn't have known about him, and he told me, "From House of Villains." Which I guess is a version of House of Mouse.

And BTW the cartoons in there are in sound...

Seems you are correct. it was released before S.W. as a silent, then rereleased with a soundtrack after S.W.
Yes indeed. Plane Crazy was released in May and Steamboat Willie was released in November. I am constantly amazed at how many Disney produced materials intentionally mislead people into thinking Steamboat Willie was released first.

They also say that Mickey was playing a character named "Willie" which is also incorrect.

Only Steamboat Willie is. The other cartoons share the generic silent movie piano music (which is now stuck in my head, thank you very much).
