    America Sings Question

I've been wondering. I know America Sings closed April 1988, but I never read WHY. Was it low popularity? Mechanical problems? Dated-ness?

    I'd love to know...

Also why didnt they replace it? I heard they had a "Imagineering Something New" sign in front of it until 1998! That's ridiculous!

Wow, 17 years it has been closed - and I am still mad. That was my sentimental favorite ride from growing up. I listen to the music often and watch the video often as well.

I would assume it was a lack of attendance thing; but I am not 100% certain.

It was having attendance issues and I think the designers of splash mountain wanted the characters for the ride as they moved them over there.

Did they pretend they were making something new from '88 - '98?

There were executive offices inside the America Sings building, around the Skyway side and up a flight of stairs. I used to go up there with my dad to visit some of his old pals. I don't know if the offices are still up there, but that may have been why they left the building without an attraction for so long.

From what I've been able to ferret out, CoP was moved to Florida when its sponsor GE wanted to update the ride. Disney wanted to celebrate the nation's bicentennial, so used the opportunity to replace CoP in Disneyland with America Sings. CoP was shipped to WDW and updated there. The attraction proved quite popular and lasted long past the bicentennial celebration. I haven't, however, found a definative answer to why America Sings was ultimately dumped. My best guess is that in anticipation of the TL1998 update, the powers-that-be at the time were looking for something more in keeping with the Tomorrowland theme. Thus Innoventions was born and America Sings was dismantled. Eventually, the AAs were transferred to Splash Mtn (except for two geese which were stripped of their feathers and live in Star Tours as robots.) The Carousel Theatre sat empty for a number of years before Innoventions and the upper floor was used for office space... a brilliant and creative use of valuable Disneyland park real estate.
"Yesterday, a man walked up to me and said, 'Isn't it a shame that Walt Disney couldn't be here to see this?' and I said, "He did see this, that's why it's here."

I loved that show! I only got to see it back in 1986, but I remember seeing it several times that visit. Best AA show ever! I was so jazzed when I found a video online to download. Watching it brought back so many great memories.

They should take out Innoventions and come up with a creative show about the future in its place. They seem to be slowly getting rid of a lot of the animatronic characters in the park. It's sad.

    We always loved America Sings.
I still think of it, while going on Splash Mountain. I can hear those chickens singing while flapping their wings.

But seriouly, if you really like America Sings I highly recommend the DVD that can be purchased from the Extinct Attractions Club. It is the best.

Speederscout and disneychrista, I don't think you can do much better than this link for CoP.
