How money oriented do you think Disneyland is now??

In 1955, Walt Disney opened Disneyland as a place where children and parents could have fun. Now, the Resort is huge and is full of expansion, a little more marketing, and large ticket prices. Do you think that Disneyland has become more of a money making place over the years?

The prices of merchandise at the park has gotten to a ridiculous level and there is no reason for it

I can understand why they raise the ticket prices though. I am sure Finding Nemo and the TSI overlay isn't cheap. Not to mention the refurbs of various rides. And that 650 million dollars for the DCA project doesn't come out of thin air

    Always has been.

it's just that Walt was, to a great degree, interested in making lots of money to fund his next, big and invariably expensive idea.

Now it's for the shareholders and executives.

I think Disneyland has been highly profit-driven since 1954.

(not that there's anything wrong with that)

There should be a "Do you think Disney has sacrificed everything magical, technical, artistic it ever stood for for a huge increase in the value of it's stock and the "Brand's" bottomline?" option to this poll. IMHO of course

yes, the clothes used to be nice quality. Now they are very cheap and thin, but they charge more for them. I will not buy any clothes there now or the cheap souvenirs...if anything I get something in disneyana and thats not often, because I don't like to have a bunch of dust collectors in the house.

then there's the cost of food, drinks and everything else the try to use to squeeze money out of you. It really seems like that's all the disney people are interested in. I go longer and longer before renewing my pass now....

Disney Parks charge what the market will bear. There is no crime in this. Souvenirs gettin' cheap in quality? Stop buyin' them. Food becoming inedible? Eat outside the Park.
I say they should make all they can, as they have always strived to do. It increases our chances of seeing dividends with new attractions and Park improvements/enhancements.
