Cool Pushy CMs at Main Street Opera House?

Last time I was at Disneyland, showing out of town visitors the "50th Anniversary" show at the Main Street Opera House, I was talking to my friends about the exhibets and explaining the genesis of Disneyland. We were the only ones in the Lobby.

All of a sudden, the Cast Member in the attraction got on a microphone and started giving her spiel. Very loudly. Drowning me out. Pretty much repeating exactly the same things I had been saying.

I stopped talking and let my friends listen to her spiel, but I thought it was weird.

Like, "don't listen to him, he can't possibly know what he's talking about. Let ME tell you."

I told my friends they probably were worried I was telling lies or giving out bogus information. I was probably just parroting what I'd heard in there on prior visits. Nonetheless, I thought it was kind of weird.

Long story short, has this ever happened to anybody else?

It's part of an Opera House CM's duties when in the lobby to give a spiel about the displays. Nothing personal, that's just their job.

It is their job to do that. They were not being rude or anything to you at all.

Do they start their spiel at a certain time before the show? Cause we were the only ones in there, and it seemed odd to go on a microphone and drown me out.

We ended up moving ahead a few exhibets so while she was talking about one part we were already discussing something else. My version was more the Cliff Notes version of the spiel.

Have fun with it. Next time walk right up to the CM as she or he is giving their spiel and stare at them with your jaw dropped and glazed look in your eyes. Once they realize you are doing that they tend to lose their concentration and get really nervous. It's really quite funny.

It's supposed to start at certain times. Some people run their spiel like clockwork (especially if they're newer), others vary it based on how many people are in the lobby and what they're paying attention to. But there is a certain window in which the spiel has to be begun.

I wasn't mad or anything, just a little annoyed since we were doing our own thing, more Q&A than spiel.

Our solution was to hang out by the model of DL on opening day and check that out.

Oh yeah, hilarious. And rude and childish at the same time.

OK I'm over it. Thanks for making me feel better.

Let's not let this become an 11 page thread.

I would never be rude to a Disney CM - I didn't think she was trying to be mean. What I thought is, maybe Disney tells them not to let people give their own tours of the place and I wondered if she was trained to drown people out if they're explaining the exhibets.

I could understand doing that if I was explaining the exhibets to a packed house, but it was just myself, my aunt, cousin and a friend. We were having fun doing our own thing.

They seem pushy to me when they're outside the building itself yelling to come in and see the movie. I told one of them to stop yelling I could see for my own eyes that it was there and he was ruining the atmosphere of Main Street.
