Happy Birthday Indy
Happy Birthday Indy
Walt's love of Trains!
Did the peoplemover close before Indy opened or did Indy open before people mover was closed?
Wow, 12 years? Makes me feel just a tiny bit old. I remember being terrified of going on it in 95, but my dad being the coaster and Indy fan he was, probably went on it about 5-6 times during our 5 trip that year. Every chance he got he'd sneak away saying "I bet the line is a bit shorter now" and go and ride.
I went on it in 96 with my grandparents and cousin and loved it. Though I've never seen an Indy movie, it was my favorite ride in the park for awhile, right behind Star Tours.

Happy B Day Indy!!!!
I rode it opening day and waited almost 3 hours in line. Line went all the way down main street to the entrance of the park.
I recall during the gala private Grand Opening party with all the celebs and red carpet and such that we were fortunate to attend...that we just happened to be on the same vehicle as Michael Eisner. When the car pulled back into the station after the ride...the Press were all there and he got out and started talking to them.
Later that night my cell phone started ringing from friends and family saying, "Hey! We saw you on TV!" Guess I got into a lot of shots just then.
My favorite Grand Opening experience was actually a pre-opening one. Whenever a new attraction opens, Club 33 has a special "Members-Only" dinner event (the Member plus one guest max) that features the Imagineers that worked on it as guest speakers, and then a ride on it and often a "lights on" backstage look at the attraction.
I got to go to Club 33's Indy dinner with my Member-Friend and it was a great night! The Park was closed and they had scattered some props about and you could get your pictures taken. All the Club 33 waitstaff were dressed in Indy costumes...that was funny to see. And we had the attraction all to ourselves. But the best part was when each of the Imagineers took one car each on a private ride in "work mode." This was going through Indy very slowly in the car without any jerking around simulator effects, and with all the work lights on in the show building. Our car's "Temple Guide" was Imagineer Tony Baxter. That was great fun and he pointed out all the little tricks, details and trivia about the attraction as we very slowly rolled though the show building.
We all got autographed Press Kits and some other goodies. A great evening!

I hate you more and more every day
I love Indy, I was lucky to get a few rides in back in mid 1995 on a week night just before close when there was no queue. We RAN down the half mile queue several times to board a car. Each time we decided that we wouldn't do it again until we were out of the exit again.
I remember noting the pole holes for the temporary rat races that lead all the way back to Main Street.
Remember not to look directly into the eye of Mara...
Disney FAQ#275: What is DCA?
DCA stands for Disney Construction Area. All the Cast Members are themed with hard hats and steel toed boots.
Darn you Opus!
I remember my first ride on Indy...I think I was 7, and my best friend at the time was with me. She was so scared that she had her eyes shut the whole time! And it was just awesome.
Happy Birthday Indy!
Take me to Neverland...
Whoa that's crazy... Happy Birthday Indy! I remember when my family and I were going to the line for the first time, I was too short to ride =(...I was only 5 yrs old. But of course, I eventually got to ride it.
Speak of the devil... here's a nice interview with Tony about the history of Indiana Jones in the Disney parks:

Oh gosh. Somewhere in the Opus Archives I have video B-Rolls of not only construction, but of a test-ride on the raw track layout (no show elements) out in the open air or with no walls on whatever building it was. It was a POV thing where they mounted a camera on the raw car chassis.
Don't recall if this was footage of when they set the ride system and track up for testing up here in Valencia, California...or if it was down at Disneyland during construction.
Even if I manage to dig it up...it could be on professional BetaCam tapes...so I might not be able to transfer it. But I know it exists out there somewhere!
Sorry for the "tease" post.![]()
