The book is good, and generally reliable, but Swabbie is right. Any time you have that much info coming from that many sources, there are bound to be errors. Since it is THE book on the subject, there's a certain perverse pleasure in finding them.

I have both books and read them with my son. I do crave info but I don't have blueprints or photographic memories of riding it in the 70s. Sadly, I have to rely on books or hearsay. I'll tell you though, for the 20 bucks I spent on those books, they are well worth the $ IMO. Chad

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? I couldn't agree with either of you more. Jason Surrell worked hard on his books. I own both of them and I honestly can't wait for his Disney Mountains and Fantasyland books to come out. They are full of amazing information and even more amazing photos and artworks from the IRC. I'm not going to blame Jason for a few wrong facts here or there. But... I rather consider it more interesting to find proof of what is true. I mean, Jason told me in an e-mail that he spoke with the Imagineer who installed Haunted Mansion at WDW and that there was NEVER a man in web. Documents, concept art and a few memories say that it was. So, I am working on finding the truth... The truth is out there............................ (yes... I went there).

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? And of course GRD's blog. And, AND, AND ...the thread that would -ould -ould -ould not -ot -ot -ot die -ie -ie -ie. ![]() *******break******* Okay, another flight of fancy. Put a big, fat FWIW over this one, and play along, if you're so inclined. I've said before and I'll say again that I think the Hatbox Ghost is coming back. That's what my nic is all about. (I've given my three reasons here: http://micechat.com/forums/showpost....&postcount=111 ) Accepting this premise, who will Hatbox be? (1) I've discussed the case for introducing him as a sixth groom for Constance here: http://micechat.com/forums/showpost....&postcount=265 (2) I've discussed the case for identifying him with the fifth husband, George, here: http://micechat.com/forums/showpost....&postcount=482 But it doesn't end there. George wears the wrong kind of hat. It's Frank that has a hat exactly like the HBG. Is that him? But HBG has a cane, and only one of Connie's hubs has a cane: Reginald. And Reginald is tantalizingly ripe for additional backstory, what with him sitting in a chair exactly like Jack Sparrow's in POTC (and originally used in the HM movie.) For this, see GRD's latest blog: http://ghostrelationsdept.blogspot.c...from-jack.html But wait a sec! Do we have any real proof that HBG is Connie's husband at all? Well, the HM "Story and Song" LP calls the attic bride "his bride," and the certificate that comes with the HBG big fig also says he is her "suitor:" ![]() Besides, he's decapitated, like all her other husbands. So...I'm suspecting the Imagineers knew that their little hints (like the hatrack) would be picked up by hardcore fans, and that they may have deliberately sowed conflicting clues, just to keep us guessing! Of course this could all be foolishness, but hey, I'm having fun with it. |

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? HBG2, I'm not sure if you've presented this clue, but what about the trunk that said something along the lines of "U. Will (something) 456 Burrow Pl."........err....or something like that.

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? Chad, believe it or not, I don't! Chapter 13. Ugh. That was a lovely, lovely, theory, all shot to hell by mean old GRD. Yes, I thought the crate in front of the first attic tableau had a clue printed on it: ![]() U. Will. Plough 456 Furrow Pls. = "You will plow four, five, six furrow places," meaning that Constance would dig (or cause to be dug) four, then five, then six graves: the five husbands we know about, plus...one more. But GRD showed me this NBC overlay picture from 2003: ![]() ...and my lovely, lovely, theory goes down like the Titanic |

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? Because 2003 is much too early for any traces of Constance theming. The HM movie came out that year, and if it had been a big hit, it's hard to imagine how a nasty, "black widow bride" would have been added to the HM. So the crate has nothing to do with her...unless an Imagineer actually took some inspiration from it when he dreamed up the Connie thing. The tail wagging the dog. That's a long shot. |

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? This is my take on the HBG--this is supported by no evidence whatsoever. But, as none of the theories so far have any real foundation on what could be called concrete evidence, I don't feel too guilty about offering my inane speculations. I believe the HBG is not a husband after all, but a suitor who's interest in Constance takes place AFTER death. I believe he is a HM resident (maybe Graveyard resident?) who is seeking to win the favor of the Merry Widow. And what would a ghost suitor bring to impress a ghost bride fond of the head-chopping? His own head, wrapped up pretty in a nice box, of course!! |

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? That's kind of cute in a sick emo/morbid way. I could just imagine the HBG nervously walking up to constance and shyly offering his head to her...lol

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? Yeah, I do like it. I think Swabbie's on to something. Connie ended her days as a widow: ![]() And George is probably her last husband, judging from his presence in her stretchroom portrait and the position of their wedding portrait in the attic. Now here we find her in the afterlife all decked out as a bride again. And nothing says that HBG is her husband, only her suitor and her groom. It's all good. |
