Absolutely! Do you remember those black mats that used to be used to open the door at the grocery store? Those exact same mats are peppered throughout the mansion. If the intrusion alarm goes off, the ride and belt motors automatically turn off. Procedure at that point is: Mute the alarm, note the location, press the safety spiel button, grab a flashlight and run to the location to investigate.

With all this talk about music, it reminded me of one concept art that I saw. (It's a picture of a picture so the quality isn't all that good):

This was a plan for the "ballroom" scene before it was a ballroom. In fact, it looked more like a saloon with a stage....of course this idea was probably thrown out because what house has a stage in it? (Kind of like the idea of people riding boats in the mansion)

Anyway, you'd ride your doombuggie in a circular fashion like the sceance room and see these three playing while other ghouls sat at tables. I'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to pull off the pepper's ghost with making a "turn", but whatever.

It's just a neat idea and I would have love to have seen ghosts playing the chello and violin. Not to mention the idea of the pianist was in the mind of imagineers long before WDW was created. The crazy thing is it ricocheted back to DL in the attic years later.....

Kinda spooky how it's been haunting the mind untill it was finally released to the world. *sinister laughter*
I agree that the shadow pianist idea may well have drawn inspiration from this X Atencio concept art, but just to clarify, isn't that a pump organ? (See the foot pedals?) Also, it seems like X's keyboardist was, in turn, inspired by an earlier Ken Anderson sketch that shows a similar organ with ghostly footprints on it.

One idea leads to another.

That's a nice montage. Now, add these two pix...

(first pic: GRD's blog; second pic: grimghosts.com)

...and ta da, you've got a nifty string of images illustrating how ideas move from concept to execution, bouncing off each other and getting modified along the way, over a period of almost 40 years. (The earliest drawing is about 1957; the last installation is 1995.)

I got it here, at grimghosts.com: http://www.grimghosts.com/dl/attic.html

(The original is much nicer. I messed it up a little, trying to sharpen the silhouette so as to make a point which is unrelated to the present discussion.)

They must have stopped right there to not get it blurry. Love the shot.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

I have returned again for the evening and felt I had to make a cameo on this thread.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

Nope. They are all in the book, but in different places. That's GRD's montage.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

Ahhhhh I see. I guess I just made the association because of the similarity of content in the pictures.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

I personally like the shadow on the floor/on the wall. With it on the instument it'd kinda look like the ghost was laying flat against the piano like the concept art.

(Dan, I liked your trivia questions. Mind if I take a shot?)

At the end of your tour, Little Leota reminds you to bring back your death certificate.....Out of all the rides in all the parks in the U.S., what is the only one that actually has a death certificate?

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

This isn't part of the trivia, but here is another shot of the attic piano with ghost.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

Good pictures of the phantom pianist do seem to be rare. Not surprisingly.

As far as death certificates go, I have no idea, Chappie. I was going to guess ToT too, but if that's not it, I would guess either Indy or Roger Rabbit.
