![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? Interesting stuff GRD! Always like reading your blog.... But there's something that had been bothering me about the "chairs" in PotC and the HM from the HM movie........ Let me just put the pictures here from GRD's blog: Here's a scene from the movie and the physical chair in the mansion: ![]() Here's a link to the Jack Sparrow one that is too large to post directly: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...06333Large.jpg Just look at the shot of Master Gracey sitting there...Now look at Jack Sparrow. Hmmmm, also, look at how high up the arm rest is in the pic from the Haunted Mansion ride. My point is that Gracey is sitting at one of the two "head" seats and the ones used in the rides are actually on either side of the table (since they're much shorter). In the movie, these would be the ones Eddie and the kids are sitting in. Ok, well that's just me pointing out some irrelevent information, but hey, what kind of obsessive fan would I be otherwise? By the way, while I was searching, I found the concept art we all got a glimpse at before the pirate changes were unveiled. This is where we got first looks at the treasure room and the advanced Jack Sparrow AA.......but wait, what's that he's sitting in? I cannot say for certain, but it looks like the imagineers didn't really plan to have the HM chair in there. Maybe they just felt like grabbing whatever was lying around in a prop house and our suspicions about the tie-ins are false? ![]() Who knows...

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? Nice observation, Chappie. Even more curious, the HM movie chair in the attic is a replacement for the one they put there originally, which looked like this: ![]() But since the one Reggie is sitting on in the portrait is the HM movie chair, I'm guessing that they had a delay in getting ahold of the real prop and used this other one as a temporary substitute. |

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? More trivia. When people think of possible literary tie-ins or allusions and the HM, they usually try to find a connection with Edgar Allan Poe (the Raven, premature burial; that sort of thing). But forget about Poe. There are at least two solid connections to...Oscar Wilde. The first is fairly well-known: "The Picture of Dorian Gray" is often cited as an inspiration for the "Master Gracy" decaying portrait, and we now have Ken Anderson's notes from 1957 explicitly confirming that the idea of a Dorian Gray-like changing portrait was being kicked around. The second one I just noticed in the last few days, as a result of this thread. In Wilde's famous comic play, The Importance of Being Earnest, one of the main characters is named... ...wait for it... ![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? And the hits just keep on comin'... Someone posted over at DB about a charity auction featuring some HM conceptual art put onto canvas: http://mysite.verizon.net/res008eg/d...llery/id1.html Most of it is quite familiar, but I have never seen this one before: ![]() Is this a Claude Coates piece? It's cool. And the face looks like the familiar organ banshee/blast-up ghost that got ripped-off for the Scream movies. Another one is sort of a twin to the one we discussed pages ago, and it's fun because just as the other one depicted the Dracula changing portrait (Chap13 won that debate), this one even more obviously depicts other well-known portraits that made it into the final Mansion: |

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? Except for the Witch of Walpugis back there, but then again, that turned into a Sinister 11... But so did the guy standing in the doorway... so... hmmm... Here is something that a lot of people don't spot though... Do you realize how big this room was supposed to be? Compare it to the size of the guy standing on the left side of the hall looking at the bust. Most people don't notice him as he blends in.

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? Those are some BIG suites of armor. There seems to be a theme of "squiggly" lines through this concept, but I digress... I'm trying to figure out what portrait that is on the far left (The one you can barely see. It has pink on it). I think it's this one: ![]() I'm thinking Jack the Ripper wins out because the bricks take up the complete length of the right side (except the window). Of course, it could have been something completely different that we've never seen before.

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? LOL...good luck with that one. A strip of pink does not a painting make. Unless this concept painting is cropped and we've got more to go by. Notice the fireplace andirons? ![]() Those faces ended up in the famous COD demon-eye wallpaper, it seems to me. |

![]() | Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect? nah I searched even though that wallpaper is an original design and based on the original sketches of the Museum of the Weird, just check the pic of the chair which resembles the main focal point of the wallpaper design, and unless you have millions of dollars or own a wallpaper store chances are it wont be found. And asked every wallpaper place around and they don't have that for sale just to be sure, but they only have the other wallpaper in the house ![]() this wallpaper is when you first walk into the foyer. This pattern is actually a popular commercially-available wallpaper. It is called Lily-Dresser Tradition II It is available through Bradbury & Bradbury Art Wallpapers
