The stretched portrait of Constance is presumably of her right after (maybe a few days) after she murdered him.

You know? I tried to take pictures inside the HM but my camera phone wouldn't work. Worked fine once I got out but didn't work one bit inside. Weird!
Well there are two possible answers I can think up. 1) He was reinterred or 2) she was waiting for him to inherit a rather large sum that came a bit later than expected.

Or...like many portraits, this one is not to be pressed too hard for chronological precision, but instead it compresses events from different times into one picture, in symbolic fashion. It is a symbolic portrait, after all. (Who sits around on a tombstone?) The death of her last husband, and her long and carefree widowhood thereafter, are both depicted in a single portrait.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

I hate to be on the fence about everything it seems, but again I have mixed feelings about the changing potraits. I love the lightning effect, but I always thought the gradually changing pictures were a lot more scary. I assure you, when I was 6 I needed the light on at night a few times from the medusa one.

I also miss the April/December picture.

More fun HM Trivia, the bust on the right that moves his face towards you as you walk can also be seen in the ball room. If you look on the mantle you will see a ghost with his arm around a bust. That's him too. Fun to look for it in the classic birthday party scene.

Who knows? I've got three reasons to believe HBG is slated for return. First, they've been marketing a lot of new HBG items in the last year or two (a big fig, etched crystal blocks, two Halloween decorations); second, the new theming fits him like a glove (head-chopping bride, hat-rack standing in his spot, a Face in the Séance room that looks like him); and third...I'm not at liberty to say.

Actually, if we're going to be accurate, it's ghoul information.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

While we're on the subject of HM effects, the huge doors in the ballroom scene that are right below the dueling ghosts are always closed and have seem to have no significance. But during the HM Holiday the doors are open and there seems to be a Christmas tree made out of presents. I was just wondering if there's some reason behind having that small room there or if there was something in that place back when HM originally opened???? Any info is greatly appreciated-

The only thing I can tell you is that, no, nothing different was there when the HM opened. Whatever its purpose, I'm pretty sure it's always been like it is now.

Well I was thinking, "if" they do plan on bringing back the HBG and the effect still isnt able to work properly, then that would be the perfect place to put him. It's right before the attic scene and the distance from the buggies might actually lend itself to make the effect work better. Just a thought-

In May/06 the attic was redone with the Constance theming, and a little later a ghostly "Face" began appearing in the Séance room. There have been a few other minor things too. Seeing as how you're "Madame Leota," it is more than appropriate for us to say, "Heads up on your next visit."
Yeah, I've heard about that but I haven't seen any of that yet, sadly. I know I can go to YouTube and probably find it, but I want to see it for the first time in person. I'll be there in less than a week, I can't wait.

Awwww April/December was my second favorite character (my favorite, of course, being Madame Leota). My sister's favorite was the old bride, so I wonder what she's going to think of Constance... Do they still have that little green thing in the séance room? I could never figure out what it was and thought it was kind of dumb. It just looked like a little green light that floated around.

Lots of people miss A/D, and like I said earlier in this thread, I keep hoping that the fact that her image continues to pop up around DL is significant.

As for the wandering green light, it's been revamped and replaced with the "Face" effect. At least three different faces mysterious appear and disappear in the same spot while the wandering light moves around. It's been extremely difficult to photograph, but almost all the photos and videos can be conveniently seen in this thread at DB: http://p080.ezboard.com/fdisneyshaun...tart=1&stop=20

Here's a good pic of one of the faces by "hollywood1939":

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

One thing I notice about the ballroom scene is the long, tattered curtains. I know Walt didn't want the outside of the HM looking dilapidated, but the inside does have cobwebs and dust and stuff.

The thing that is weird about this is that all of the other interior draperies are quite beautiful. The draperies in the portrait gallery, conservatory, hallway, and seance room are very lush and swag beautifully.

Then when you get to the ballroom all of a sudden you have the tattered and torn drapes. It isn't enough for me to hate the ride, but it is something I have noticed that is different from the rest of the mansion...

When you have sprits hanging from chandaliers and drunken passed out ghosts under the table, you are bound to have some torn drapes at a party.

You know, strangely enough, I had never noticed it before, but the ballroom is the only decrepit room in the Mansion. Before that, the place is "dirty" (dust and cobwebs) but not materially run down. The attic doesn't count: it's an unfinished attic. And then you're "outside." Back in the ballroom, it's not just the tattered drapes: The wallpaper is peeling too, and some of the railing for the stairs and balcony on the far side is in disrepair.

Yeah, that's strange... Trying to think of a reason, but I got nothin'.

I can guess how....Same way I know about a lot of things that go on at the parks. ;-)
