Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

Isn't that weird? You'd think they would use the same mold.

Well, that's the same deaf guy pic as the Pana-Vue shot, but it's nicely blown up. I think it's Gus's head. I can see his face better in my pic. I don't think Jimmy Durante is Gus, though. Not enough bag under the eyes. Could be wrong.

Four.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

There are seven, if I'm not mistaken.

One just past the Caretaker, on your right
One in front of the band, in front of the floutist
One in front of the teeter-totter
One in front of the picnic table (with the arm right next to it)
One in front of the mummy tableau, but a little to the rider's left of it
One in front of the opera singers
One in front of the arm-walling-itself-up

I think that's it.

I only saw three maybe four, last time.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

Now don't anyone ask me how many moving tombstones there are, because I don't know. Also, I'm not sure if there's one or two crypts flexing their stones as if about to burst open.

LOL. Saw that one coming, I did. Except it's a "dead oak tree," of course.

You mean you don't KNOW? That's not good enough, soldier.

Since this thread has become a collecting spot for good pictures of the HHG's, here are a few more recent ones from Frogberto:

...and another from DaddyB:

...to go with the one we've already posted a few times:

It's well-known that Ezra underwent a profound change from Marc Davis's concept drawing to the final, production figure. Originally, the middle hitchhiker was going to be a plain, "sheet" ghost:

This version is even used for the scale model figure (see Surrell, pg. 91). The most fascinating Ezra is Collin Campbell's illustration for the Story and Song souvenir booklet, which combines features of the sheet-type ghost and the eventual skeletal figure we all know and love:

It's almost as if this represents a compromise between the two concepts.

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

The only reason I can't figure out if its two or three is that, i think the one with the popup and the hand with the teacup/wineglass was supposed to have a moving lid...

Argh!

Re: Long-forgotten Haunted Mansion Effect?

While we're loitering around the wine-glass arm, we need to give a shout out to our shutterbug readers (I'm looking at you, Jack. You too, leota's child) to try to get some good snaps and maybe video of the blast-up ghost there, now that we know it's probably the last one operating in the entire US of A. Who knows if and when they decide to replace it? and then we'll kick ourselves for not capturing it for posterity.

Do it for your fellow Thread-heads.

Another thing they did that first trip was open and close both doors of the foyer for each group. I wonder how long they kept that up?
I was amazed the other day (5/23, the day you posted that comment!) that the CM actually closed both doors when we were inside the foyer. I think he was just playing with the kids near the door, but it was weird to be closed in (for the first time in years, that I remember).
We were in there for a while, too - something was wrong with the Mansion, because we waited a long time in the foyer, and then the ride stopped just as I was getting into a Doombuggy. First time I ever went up that dismal exit stairway - it lets out by the crypts in the queue area. Anyone else get walked out of the HM at about 7:30 on Wednesday night? I'm curious to know the exit routes from weird places like the attic or seance room (how geeky is that?!?).
