The Grand Californian Hotel average rate is now $504 a night

I was over at TripAdvisor.com checking out a few things, and saw that the average rate for the GCH is now $504 (last time I checked it was $460).

Heck, the Paradise Pier is now $289 and the Disneyland Hotel is $375.

I just can't see paying these type of prices when you can pay less than $150 for a really nice Hotel a block or two away that comes with things like Free Parking, Free Breakfast, some hotels have free dinners and cocktail hours, some with kitchens, etc....

Heck, all the really nice hotels in Newport Beach, which are on the ocean, are less than the GCH...

I agree with you, I'd rather just go the Disneyland Hotel, and pay less, But people are willing to pay those prices.

That is exactly why I always encourage people to stay at other hotels outside the DLR. Heck, the Ritz Carlton I believe is $350-400 per night. And that is right on Salt Creek Beach! Yes it is about a 25 minute drive south, but if you asked them to shuttle you to Disneyland I am absolutely certain that they won't have any problem with that. That goes for the other 4 star hotels along the Orange County Coast. Newport Beach is closer, so try a stay at The Island Hotel. Laguna Beach has the Surf and Sand Hotel -- this is right on the beach. All these hotels will run you just as much, according to the figures Darkbeer just gave.

    $504?!?!?!?!1111

oh my gosh that's just a teeny bit ridiculous. makes me sad that because of price increases like this, more and more people are not able to enjoy Disneyland because it's just too darn expensive!!!

One reason I will NEVER stay there. Not when I can priceline and get the Hilton, Hyatt or Doubletree for $50 per night.

I mean, I know WDW has more hotels, and therefore can have moderate and value resorts ... but this is just ridiculous.

But, if people will fill the rooms, more power to them I guess.

Why are the rates so much though? I'm not understand that. Can they get away with it because it's part of a "resort"? I'd like to stay there at least once, you know, just for giggles, but not if it's $500 bucks a night! What do I get for my money?

Because #1 it is a resort, and #2 People are going to pay for it. I agree, it is ridiculous.

Pretty sad how a weekend in Vegas, Including round trip air fare and hotel stay, is much much cheaper than a weekend at Disneyland. I was going to spend my 40th Birthday weekend at the GCH but discovered that by going to Vegas instead we saved 1400 dollars

What a waste of money, that is ridiculous. If everyone stayed away from that place for a week, they might get the hint.

The sad thing is, I don't think people realize, it is NOT worth the money, unless you spend every waking hours at the hotel, in an attempt to get your monies worth.

Meanwhile, I'll be at the Doubletree for $70 per night.

Yeah seriously. Go to the Embassy Suites down the street get a huge room, hot breakfast, and free cocktails in the evening for less than half the price of the GCH.

Also the DLH and PPH aren't anything special. The GCH isn't really either, but it at least is extremely close to the park and has some great views. We stayed at the DLH last october and I don't think I'll stay there again until they update things.
