Motor Boat Cruise No More/Monorail Trip Report

Yes that is right folks something that has been a part of Disneyland since 1957 is no more. I am not talking about the old load area where all the teens love to.....um love?!?!? I am talking about the actually course your little motor boat you to take through the back woods of Fantasyland (and of course Gummi Glen).

Today I had the chance to do something it seems like it has been years since I have done...ride the Monorail the normal way, meaning not backwards...well I was sitting backwards still but the Monorail was not going backwards. As we enter Tomorrowland I see a big brown hill which I am guessing will soon have lots of plants all over it to hide the fact that is the start of the new show building for the Subs *very excited* Then as we move on a little bit more I start looking for the peaceful course those Motor Boats of yesteryear use to travel, but what do I see? Dirt path ways and the start of a walk way.

So we keep going on our little trip through Tomorrowland where we can see the golden spires of it's a small world, so I take a look to see what else they have done to my last piece of Disney Afternoon Ave. history. As I look I see the old loading dock that has been standing since 1957 and look to see where the course used to travel, where they put up the painted tarp to block your view of what is going on behind it, and see just small little concrete ponds not more then 3 or 4 feet back. So alas as I said the Motor Boats are no more

Oh and they built a new water filtration station back there also that looks really bad cause you go right over it on the Monorail.

Sorry Germ. If it's any consolation to you, I think that DL has plans for one or more high caliber replacement attractions for the demolished MBC. As much as I loved MCB (and loved my gf on it), We have something cool to look forward to.

Perhaps we'll get a dry for wet dark ride...Turtle Twister or Little Mermaid come to mind.

It's Jerm but I know what the plans are for that area.....an evac path for the Subs . That area will all be connected to the sub building so if the attraction goes down they can now get out of that area. I am sure they will make it look all nice and pretty but that is what is going in that area.

Somewhere between a random hunch and and information based assertation. I've heard several other reports from reliable sources that an attraction may be going in at that area. The first account was that it was going to be replaced with a kiddie playground. The kiddie park ended up replacing Goofy's Bounce House in Toon Town

Prior to his leaving, Matt Ouimet said that he wanted to see a more significant attraction in the MBC area. Hopefully, this will hold true. Pathways will certainly not hinder the construction of something new. These paths can be used for both the subs and a dark ride, or whatever.

Hello again, Jerm. There's only one thing that is an absolute about Disney...they will always burst at the seems with unpredictable surprises. An inside source at DL park can tell you one thing, while the company ends up modifying the project that you heard about...or doing something all together different.

The possibility of a new attraction is still quite possible. As I related above, the paths could be used for two rides, in conjunction. Disney is often like a girlfriend (or boyfriend as the case may be) that you are courting...they say "NO" when they mean "YES".

Currently, they are building a sidewalk from the new Sub Lagoon Show Building to the parade route back stage to satify the folks at DOSH and the Lawyers in the old Motor Boat LAgoon area.

They used a big portion of the old MBC as a staging area for the construction work for the Subs.

However, if you look as some of the great pictures that Darkbeer and others took today, you should notice all sorts of contructions stakes so it certainly appears that something may be done.

It is an access path for the subs.

The large piece of property is also being looked at for possible future growth and attraction additions. The paths if needed would be reconfigured to accomodate anything that is built there
