Re: The Frog Princess in New Orleans Square

I'm so excited about this movie. I also think that it's great to see Anika Noni Rose get more exposure. I first became familiar with her work when she created the Tony-winning role of Emmie in Caroline, or Change.

I can't wait to see this.

One thing that *does* bug me a bit is that this technically *won't* be Disney's first black princess. In animation, yes. Disney opened a musical on Broadway a few years ago called Aida, though. She is also black and a princess.

Does that bug anyone else a tiny bit, or just me? I wish they'd clarify that she's the first animated black princess.

I still have hopes that someday, Aida will either be animated or become a movie musical. Tim Rice and Elton John did a really good job with it and I'd love to see the production again.

Actually if you are considering live action the first black Disney princess would be Cinderella. Disney made a TV movie remake of Cinderella -- actually the Rodgers and Hammerstien version and not the Disney version -- and cast Brandy in the title role.

At Disneyland there is a perfect themed land ready to support all sorts of wonderfully immersive atmospheres for this new Disney Princess. And in the grand tradition of Disneyland Entertainment, I'm sure it will be handled with care and polish and great showmanship.

At Walt Disney World they'll just do what they always do.... they'll use a budget one fourth of Disneyland's to put her in Tomorrowland on a temporary stage played by an actress who bears very little physical resemblance to the Character she is supposed to be playing. The tourists from Ohio and Wales will never know the difference.

Oh, you're right! I forgot about that version. Good call. ^^

I really wish they'd say first black *animated* princess...

Even Jon Stewart and Larry Wilmore left off "animated" from "princess." Though Jon did start off the piece saying it was an animated film:
