I can not BELIEVE that Disney brass wants to move the Christmas Parade to DCA! ARE THEY INSANE??? You take this parade out of Disneyland, and you are basically left with the HOLLYWOOD CHRISTMAS PARADE! (Southern California already has one of those!) Furthermore, I canít believe that we are not unanimous in that it should stay in Disneyland. When was the last time some of you actually SAW this parade with small children??? In order to get the full effect, you need to see it after dark - after the Christmas lights are on across Main Street and the giant Christmas Tree is lit in the Plaza. This parade, by FAR has been my kidís favorite, combining the joy of the holidays with their favorite characters...the Toy Soldiers...Santa at the end....itís absolutely amazing, and has been a tradition in our family for several years. And the SNOW on Main Street is, well....itís just magic. Itís one of the main reasons we finally broke down and bought annual passports this year. We were looking forward to seeing the CHRISTMAS PARADE, which is a DISNEYLAND TRADITION, in DISNEYLAND.

Did you say Michael Eisener was on his way OUT?? Who came up with this Disney tradition-killing idea? Moving the parade wonít save DCA. You want more bodies in that park? Hereís an idea: Lower the price to twenty bucks as DCA is a THIRD of the size of Disneyland! A THIRD of Disneyland should be a THIRD of the price!

But please donít kill yet ANOTHER tradition at Disneyland simply to make DCA look like more than it is. I was just reading recently that people complained to Walt when the idea first came up for a Christmas Parade...that it would be too expensive and wouldnít bring in any revenue. Walt replied that as long as you are providing an incredible experience for people, theyíll keep coming back. But once you lose them....

    Hello? Is this thing on?...

*agrees* I don't think that the Christmas Fantasy Parade should ever leave Disneyland. People who expect it to be in DL would be very upset. (I can hear the complaints in City Hall already!)

I am glad to hear so many people are finally coming on board with this. I agree with Tigger001 that they can afford to run more than one parade at Disneyland like in the old days. The numbers are through the roof this year!!! Again, people will not want to go over to DCA to see the Christmas Parade, and if they do, it will be because they have to, not because they want to. The Christmas Parade is one of the major events that make Disneyland magical during the Holidays. Let's have more respect for this parade than just tossing it over to DCA to try to force people over there. Again, they need to run Parade of Dreams during the day & Christmas in the evening or vice versa at Disneyland!!!!

I like the Very Merry Christmas Parade as well, but also enjoy A Christmas Fantasy. Speaking of Walt Disney World, they run 2 separate parades all the time. Currently they run a day performance of Share a Dream Come True, then an evening performance (sometimes 2) of SpectroMagic. The point is, the Magic Kingdom has always done it this way and Disneyland used to do it this way, but even more. There is no reason why they cannot run Parade of Dreams & the Christmas Parade. According to most of the posts, the majority are in agreement on this. City Hall will be lined up during the Holiday season if they move the Christmas Parade to DCA. It just will not be the same. I appreciate everyone that has posted their passionate thoughts on this. Please keep it coming.

Hmm.. this coming from someone with over a thousand posts on this forum.

and then for the other side of the coin, most of you complainers are AP holders it's not like it's costing you anymore to cross over into DCA
I don't see anybody complaining, just stating their opinions.
And I kinda resent the fact that you are labeling AP'ers as such.
I am an AP holder and when I am in the park I treat CM's with the utmost respect, don't think I own the place, and clean up after myself.

    Now back on topic....
I love the idea of replacing the Wishes portion with holiday music and yes, I think they could do the multiple parades during the day/night.

Another reason that I have heard is that Disney is expecting Disneyland to be INSANELY crowded with the 50th and the Christmas Break season- and to try to spread out this crowds so it is not unbearable, they figure moving the parade will do so.
Personally, I'm hoping that bringing the parade over to DCA will be the start of better Christmas activity at DCA. I think that there is a lot of room for holiday cheer in DCA. How about an increase in snow on Grizzly Peak and the surrounding area as well as snow machines along the parade route? Giant Christmas trees in each land, themed to the land?
Finally, can anybody confirm that there is in fact ROOM for both parades in the parade wherehouse. I'm not a CM, but from what I've heard, the PoD floats are SO huge that there physically IS NOT room for the Christmas Fantasy parade- and it's journey to DCA is out of neccesity. Can anybody prove this wrong? Because this seems like a very good reason to me, but I am not sure if it is true.

There is definitely enough room for both the POD floats and the Christmas Fantasy floats in the parade warehouse right now. They're both currently being kept there when it's time for the floats to go to sleep. The problem isn't the warehouse... the problem is the backstage area down in Town Square where the floats take their break in between parades. It is already uber crowded down there when POD rests in Town Square. DEFINITELY cannot have another parade.

If you do both parades, they would either have to do 2 runs of POD, up and down the street in the day. And then 2 runs of Christmas Fantasy, up and down the street at night. I guess they can then switch it so that CF parade is in the day and POD at night for the next day. 4 parades seems a little excessive and people are already complaining that POD is taking up too much time and causing traffic jams everywhere. I can't imagine what would happen if there were FOUR parades a day.

So my suggestion was to park the floats overnight in the backstage area in Town Square so that each parade can make one run a day. For more details about my plan, you can look at my previous post. I'm too lazy to type it up again. haha.

Thanks for the information, General Shang! I get it now! I dunno, keeping the units outside over night seems like a disaster waiting to happen to me. Was that how it used to be done when 2 parades were running?

I didn't completely read this entire thread so sorry if something similar has already been posted. But For the snow in the park, I think they should leave fireworks completely the same. But after the finale, there would be 10 seconds for applause, when suddenly a magical christmas type sound is heard and the lights on the castle come on with a magical, christmas-ee look to them. Julie andrews comes back on with the christmas background 'magic' noise is still playing. And she says something like "In rememberence of the the magic of the holiday season, and a Disneyland tradtion loved by all, tonight will soon become even more magical. Holiday spirit is in the air and it is waiting for you to grasp it." The chrismas sounds become louder Viloins and bells are heard slowly getting louder... Christmas lighting will be lit all over the castle, when suddenly tinkerbell comes flying back out and casts her magic over the park, then the snow comes falling down (starting over the castle) and the music leads into the old audio of "I'm dreaming of a white christmas" that used to be played after the holiday magic fireworks show.

That way they can keep the 50th celebration fireworks (without confusing people with part christmas audio/ part disneyland audio) and have the snow be a whole semi different show in it's self.

over a thousand posts and while living out of state and visiting once a year (well I just started again for the last two years) yeah I could be aruged to be even more hardcore then most :B

and yeah I suppose that's true, I just feel that the Disney fangroup along with many other fangroups I've been a part of over the years is sometimes a little bit too unaccepting to change which I can find good in many cases

I think we need to remeber that not everyone traveling for the 50th is going to make it for the summer or whatnot

it's great that they're continuing these offerings for guests who want to see the birthday stuff (running some form of Remeber is a MUST I will be dissapointed if they revert back to the same old fireworks show from years past, the parade is fine but only if they arn't planning on keeping it until the 55th *or at least they'd better pland on expanding it before the 55th*)

there is already plenty to do at Disneyland without a nighttime parade and once Rockit mountain launches tourists will have enough to worry about as far as that goes (Rockit Mountain, Fantasmic and Fireworks that's plenty of things sometimes tourists have enough trouble just hitting all the must see's in a single day) for me I think Fantasmic is a sort of replacement for the parade, sure it's not one but it is another entertainment offering (and wasn't the Electircal parade devised as a substitute for not being able to clone WDW's water electrical parade dealy?)

spreading offerings out will releave congestion too a bit and give people who travel out more reasons to expand their trip and see both parks (which isn't that bad of a deal for a two day stay DLR easily covers that)

a parades a parade to me and I think DCA would be fine for it though I do hope they'd cut back on beach santa (I doubt they'd alter the parade for that though) and that they'd put up more decorations in other parts of the park (the whole Performance Corridor/Parade Route needs to have great decorations but then again I think they could easily pull that off after all if I'm not mistaken last Christmas they expanded decorations so parts of Disneyland that ussualy don't see much were covered just as much as Mainstreet almost )

Ok so yeah... parking the floats overnight exposed at night is a little bad... but it's just an idea. perhaps a quick fix could be some makeshift canopies.. but the floats are so big that the canopies would have to be ginormous as well. :sigh: ... I think I just have to accept that CF parade will be heading to DCA.

They can have the noisy snow machines. All that racket spoils the effect for me anyway. Real snow is quiet, it even has a dampening effect. Plus inhaling one of those simulated "flakes" is nasty.

That said, as a former SoCal resident, I can understand why locals go gaga over the snow effect.

For many many many many years they have done 4 parades. I think the logistics of all of this is throwing everyone off. What is being suggested is that they run the POD twice during the day. Then they run the Christmas Parade twice at night. They used to run two parades during the day and two parades at night. That was the norm. That seems like the most logical thing to do and that is what is being suggested.
