    Space Mountain asteroid?

Does anyone have a good picture of the Space Mountain asteroid that you go around at the top of the main lift hill? When will Disney ever light this thing up?

Here are my favorites of the ones I personally took.

As for when it will be lit up, your guess is as good as mine. Sure wish Disney would do something special with this cool prop.

2DieFR, you got some excellent pictures of it! Whenever I look, it always appears mega dark and I can barely see it really. I notice it kind of moving off to the side but I've never gotten a good look at it like that before. Your pictures do make it look much better but nothing can replace the giant red thing that was once there. I miss that thing a lot.

It does, doesn't it?! I've thought that for about 30 years now.

    Re: Space Mountain asteroid?

Before the new Space Mountain opened, one of the many rumors I heard was that we're supposed to get hit by an asteroid...but then again we were also going to have a quick launch and a loop, right? Well, do you think that there's going to be some sort of effect with this asteroid eventually, or is it just going to be used as decoration?

Also, I'm kind of glad we don't have that big glowing red ball any more, sorry. It just seemed kind of lame to me (along with the giant flying cookies and this thing that every time we rode my family would have arguments over whether it was a turkey drumstick or a toothbrush). I kind of like the dark way it is now...er was, and will be after Rockin'. But I haven't even been on Rockin' yet, but I will in a few days! Oh now I'm rambling, sorry...

No, this was added in the recent rebuilding rehab.

The cookie is something that, for now, you'll have to go to Orlando to witness. The WDW Space Mountain is a more madmouse/Matterhorn style affair in a dark room with projections of of asteroids on the roof of the dome. Since you can see into the dome from the loading station, if you observe the asteroid projections enough you'll see one is a zoomed-up cookie.

    Re: Space Mountain asteroid?

the reason they dont use it is it is too bright.... lights up the whole place.... they arent using it in Rockin because the projections on the walls would be washed out.... thats what I have heard!
The earth is round.... or so i've found.
