    Teenagers in wheel chairs?

I had always wanted to ask but always forgot...But the trampy thread reminded me...

What is the deal with all the teenagers in wheel chairs lately? The last two times I've gone, it's been crazy. I went to city hall and a guy was trying to get one but the cm was really skeptical...But heres the reason I'm curious...They are constantly getting out and playing around.

Like, I'm not trying to be judgemental because I realize some people just need it for breaks or whatever, so don't condemn me for that. But the ones i've seen are the hyper teens who have like a guy sitting on a girls lap or visa versa and they both get out and just mess around. It just seems lately a wholebuncha teenagers have been getting wheel chairs who just play around in them. Or I've seen some groups who just constantly switch off and then run around...literally get off and RUN. Is it some scheme to get to the front of the lines? It's usually when a CM wwalks by that they seem to act hurt but when only guests are in site they get out..Maybe I'm just seeing things out of context tho.

I thought Disneyland had a strict policy about handing out wheel chairs? Maybe It's just coincidence and they actually do need them, but it doesn't seem that way. I'm not trying to be judgemental but it was so constant that I had to wonder, are these people faking or what?

It just seemed really bizzare...Like all the sudden tons of teenagers had medical problems of some kind within the last 2 years.

I've seen it alot, and if the person is older or has a medical problem, I can understand.
But to me, I think you need to have some sort of Dr.'s note to be able to use a wheel chair, or simply allow the elderly to use them.
Teens will be teens and horse around with a wheelchair just to get in the front of the lines, we've all seen it.

I have a feeling that most of the people who have a wheelchair in the park actually need one.

I hate to point out the obvious, but there are disabled teens as well as adults. Sometimes they don't even look disabled. Maybe you should worry more about what you're doing than what other people are.

I realize...But I'm asking about the ones who are getting out and running around and stuff. Kinda hard to not notice...I was just curious if I'm the only one who noticed this or maybe I'm just looking too much into it.

Like I said, it just seemed like this huge surge of teens in wheel chairs...my mom was actually the one who first mentioned it.

I've been in a wheelchair at 20. I just had knee surgery but had to go to Disneyland.
Remember that so many kids are so competitive with sports that injuries are so much more rampid.
Usually there is a good reason for wheelchairs, but usually you can see thier problems, but not always.
If somebody was faking they would have to pay the extra expense for the wheelchair, and most kids wouldn't do that, they are cheap.

    Re: Teenagers in wheel chairs?

Wait...Do you have to pay period for a wheel chair? I thoguht they were free if you could provide proof you had a problem. Well then that busts my myth.

Well, here's the deal: If you have to provide proof of the problem, then how could these teenagers get the wheelchairs to begin with? But, like stated above, if it's just a matter of money, most teens aren't going to cough up the cash just to rent a wheelchair they have no real need for.

Well it's not just wheel chairs that they're messing around in. Last time I went I saw two teenage boys (about 16) with a DLR stroller. One was in it, the other was pushing him around like a mad man in Adventureland. Seriously, why do they actually think it's funny to pull lame crap like that? Just idiotic IMO.

Well, do you need to provide Dr.s note? I guess I used proof too lightly. I had thought the chairs were free to people who need them.

But they could also be taking them from places where they were parked. That's my theory on where they got them.
