Disney Urban Legends that REFUSE TO DIE!

Got this idea from the "Brigham Young's Hearse" thread. There seem to be a number of Disney "urban legends" that just won't quit, no matter how many times they're debunked. I thought it might be fun for people to list some of them that they know about. Here are a few:

*The Haunted Mansion was originally so scary that someone had a heart attack, so they closed it and toned it way down.

*Walt Disney's body (or just his head) is frozen via cryogenics.

*Tinkerbell was modeled after Marilyn Monroe.

Those are off the top of my head. (And believe me, when you've got crap on the top of your head, it's a relief to get rid of it.)

    Others?

The number one question I still get asked to this day once someone finds out I used to work at Disneyland is:

"Is it true there is an underground city beneath Disneyland?"

I like the one about the trees being marked with different colored tapes to identify which ones would stay and which ones would go when Disneyland was first built, and the bulldozer driver being colorblind so he knocked them all down.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Don't you reply of course? As for urban legends www.disneylies.com is full of them.

Wait, I thought this was true? They said it in the 50 MAgical Years video.

Nope. Not true. But a good enough story to be in the video I guess.

I assume because the producers of the show can buy into these old stories just the same as the rest of us. This story was part of the Disney 'creation myth' for years until the man who started it (Marty Sklar) finally told the truth about it in an interview. Never happened. He made it all up.

    • The Main Street Train Station is a historical landmark
    • The golden spike in the ground by the castle was the original 'geographical center of Disneyland'
    • There is a tunnel that leads under the Rivers of America to Tom Sawyer Island
    • On the Sleeping Beauty Castle one of the spires was left unfinished because Walt said that Disney would never be complete
    • The canoes and rafts in the river run on tracks
    • the sub lagoon can never be drained, otherwise the Matterhorn would fall over
    • There is a coherent story behind the Haunted Mansion
