Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Ah, that's not what I meant. I know the beginning of the HM queue (with the portrait gallery) goes beneath the railroad tracks, but that's the part of the tunnel that goes beneath the concrete part of the berm, directly behind the facade. I'm talking about the short section of exposed tunnel between the north side of the mansion and the south side of Splash Mountain, the tunnel that was added when SM was built. In the last photo Circarama posted, you can see two doorways going beneath it; these are visible in the blueprints, too, but I don't think they show where the doors lead to. I'm just wondering what it's like down there.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

For anyone who's interested, here's an overview of the project as it currently stands. Indy, Pirates, the Haunted Mansion, Splash, and the ODV building all make appearances. Bonus points go to anyone who can identify the buildings on the left and right of Indy; I don't know what either of those are. (I don't mean the green vehicle storage area to the left of Indy, by the way. Keep looking further to the left and you'll see the one I mean.)

As per usual, huge thanks go to local.live.com and terraserver-usa.com. So much visual information for free...

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

To the left of Indy should be for Photopass. To the right at one time was for Planning.

Pretty impressive work, great job.

I do have an idea for that. Here it is:

Something similar can be found in the diarma. I belive the stairs are for evaucations and maintence. But that is my guess.

That'd be my guess, too. I just wish I could find photos or blueprints of all the underground areas near there.

Here's another render showing just HM and Splash from a closer angle. I've made the ground transparent so you can see the parts of the SM track that I've put below ground level. (Does anyone know where these parts of the track are supposed to be, relative to ground level?) Also, notice that I've begun building the entrance for the queue; at the moment, all I've got is the front of the building, and it's missing the big window.

Hmmm...let's see, what elese...oh, that big cone is a placemarker for the top of Splash Mountain. Also notice the train tunnel has an opening into Splash, though I haven't built the tunnel that goes through the middle yet. I also haven't built the berm itself--only its concrete core and the train tunnel inside. Yet another thing missing is the stuff that covers the north end of the SM back building. When completed, this will cover up the bit of track that loops around outside the building itself.

Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated, as well as any extra information, photos, blueprints, or elevations!

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

This looks like the beginnings of a true Virtual Magic Kingdom. I've dreamt of such an online place, but have no talent for it. I look forward to touring your 3D park in the future.

Keep up the good work.

I didn't really like it. It was pretty terrible. It was bad. It was awful! It was terrible! Take 'em away! Boo! Boo!

Thank you so much! If this project keeps going, I'm hoping to start a website with renders from lots of different, interesting angles. I'll probably make a construction page with renders of various points in my building process. Maybe I'll call the site "Virtual Backstage."

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Here's a little update; the entrance to the queue is starting to form. Unfortunately, it looks like the entire queue may have been built six or seven feet west of its position on the blueprints. I'm currently building it based on the blueprints' positioning, but I'll eventually move all the queue buildings to line up with the aerial photos, since those are my ultimate measure of how correct the scale of my model is.

Visible toward the back of this render is the interior south wall of Splash Mountain, including the train tunnel opening I pointed out on page 3 of the thread. I've hidden Splash Mountain's track temporarily.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Since I haven't obtained my own webspace yet, I guess I'll keep posting updates here till someone tells me to shut up and get a life.

I've cut four holes in Splash Mountain's back building. These exist so that the track can enter and exit the building. At some point, these holes will be camouflaged and themed to look like part of the mountain itself; after all, that entire side of the building (on the far right of the render) is visible onstage, from the boonies of Critter Country.

If you need to get your bearings, that's the bottom of the big, final lift hill at the far left. The long straightaway of track stretching diagonally across the render is the fast bit that follows the first drop, leading into the first scene with animatronics (just inside the back building). Also, that's the Haunted Mansion ride facility you're seeing on the left, though part of it is covered in this render by a green wall that houses Splash Mountain.

Comments and critiques still very, very welcome! I'd also appreciate any and all photos of the queue buildings; while the front entrance has adequate online photo coverage, the rest of the queue doesn't, and I'd very much like to model those parts, too.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Thanks, Chad! It is a lot of work, I suppose, but it's fun stuff (usually ) so it would be an understatement to say I don't mind doing it.

Here's a view inside the back building. No scenery or interior walls yet (with the exception of the first-floor boat maintenance room, visible at the lower right of the render). That loop of track on the left is the bit that goes around Br'er Bear's butt as he's hanging there. That dark, hilly drop into the laughing place is the one on the left, going away from us. The laughing place itself is down below to the right.

Ah, in case anyone wanted to know the answer to my question about the train tunnel, now I know. According to another blueprint I have, there is an electrical equipment room underneath the north half of the train tunnel. Underneath the south half is anyone's guess. A corridor runs along that equipment room and through a door into the first floor of Splash Mountain, which is below the ground level of backstage. The next door on the right is the "show electronics equipment room." Continue straight through another door and you hit the reservoir filter room.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

I've obtained the web space so I can showcase this little project (www.virtualmagic.freehostia.com), but the site itself isn't ready for upload, so here's a little update in the mean time.

This one's a big render of the Splash Mountain back building, Haunted Mansion building, and the ODV building. I haven't started modeling the details on the backside of the Haunted Mansion building; it will have doors and rectangular indentations, like the sides of the building. If you have photos of this backside, I'd love to see them! That side is covered by trees, making it difficult to make out detail in the aerial photos.

The other one is just plain weird. In a separate file, I've started building the actual covering that makes Splash Mountain look like Splash Mountain, but it's a long process with a very strange-looking beginning. I'm building the topology of the model so I can create a to-scale, smooth-edged, accurate version. For now, it just looks bizarre, especially in this early stage. All I've got is the lift for the big drop, both halves of the tunnel from the front building to the back building, and the camouflage for the north side of the back building.

Critiques, comments, and additional information still greatly appreciated!
