Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Thanks, Circarama. I've been primarily using the similar shot from local.live.com, since it has a similar level of detail but the shadows are waaaaay shorter. I have been using the terraserver photo as additional reference, though.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Still not sure if anyone's reading this thread, but I'm still gonna keep posting updates until someone puts me out of my misery.

Here's a view I can guarantee you'll never see in real life. The camera is sitting on the deck of the Zip-a-dee Lady, looking toward the oncoming track. No exterior walls are in place, so you can see right through where the mill lift should be, all the way to the Haunted Mansion facade. That dark diagonal swath at the top left is the final drop. The gray, shaded structure to the right is the train tunnel (no windows yet) and beneath is the water filter room.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Per one of your original questions, in commercial construction, a "Mechanical Equipment Room" would be where the equipment for your air conditioning system is. This could include chillers, cooling towers, swamp coolers, etc depending on the system. I can't tell from the photo if this room is open air or not. If not, then it probably doesn't include cooling towers. Additionally, it is possible that there are emergency generators in the room, though we typically place them in a separate room.

Again, that's commercial. I'm not sure if Mechanical Equipment Room would have the same designation for a theme park ride. Hope that helps.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Thanks, Zach! I know that mechanical equipment room has at least some ventilation--there's a large hole in the wall, marked as a double door in the blueprints. From a photo I've seen, it looks like that hole stays open most of the time. There's also a large vent right next to it. I believe there is a ceiling overhead, and parts of the area appear to be open to adjacent areas. Unfortunately, as you noted, it's difficult to understand all of the blueprint.

Thanks for your expertise! And from a Bruin, as well. That merits extra points.

I'm not sure if that's a compliment or a jab...

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

That was a compliment. UCLA is my alma-mater-to-be.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Very impressive indeed. I have enjoyed watching this "puzzle" come together.

I am definitely interested in additional posts.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying this, too. I should have more renders to post soon; I'm currently working on the old mill lift. Just yesterday I installed the concrete floor of Old Mill Pond, as well as one of many concrete walls that will eventually be hidden by the reddish artificial landscaping of Chickapin hill.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Me? Patience? Hardly. I started this project nearly a year ago, only to abandon it and return to it repeatedly due to boredom. Lately, I've been obsessing over this and using most of my free time to work on it, but I'm sure I'll (temporarily) lose interest again pretty soon.

I'm glad you're liking my project, though! Thanks for the support.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Thanks! I'm using Blender, which is a totally free program. Whoever thought up the idea of open source software should be given a medal. Anyway, Blender's interface can be a little intimidating and strange to get used to, but it makes perfect sense once you've used it for a bit--usually.

Re: Splash Mountain blueprints!

Very impressive! This brings back memories from a couple years ago when I build a model of Splash Mountain out of Lego. I managed to find some replicas of WDWs Spalsh Mountain to help me, but they are incomplete and don't have all the stairs and passageways that you are inquiring about.

The challenge was building a model that replicated visually the real thing, all the while allowing clearances for the Railroad tracks. Ahhh... good memories, indeed!

I love Splash Mountain!
