The Lion King DID have it's own parade...the Coronation of King Simba. I remember it well.

    Oh, and as for themes...

How about: Disneyland, The Happiest Place on Earth.
That one worked for quite a while didn't it?

... seriously though ... these theme things have got to stop! Can't we just have plain old Disneyland back.

"Year Of A Million Attraction-Based Movies"?
    "Turning Magical Dreams Into Pirates"?
    "The Final Frontier (LAND)"?
    "Celebration: Pandering"?

    Re: Disneyland's next theme

Part of the problem with the question is that the earlier "themes" were marketing campaigns that were stretched across all the parks. I think that diluted the 50th for Disneyland and has been a failure for YOMD. What needs to happen are themes specific to their resorts.

The old days these marketing campaigns were designed around new attractions or a new spectacle like a parade or fireworks. With Disney doing several new attractions for Disneyland, the theme should be built around those, Submarines, Pirate Island, and Midway Mania. I think that Disneyland needs a new parade, but that will take further expenditures. That is how the Maude Gras parade and Electrical Parade marketing was done.

I think that Disneyland is in much better shape than WDW right now. With new attractions opening, there is some buzz here. While at WDW, only the Scary Laugh Floor has opened. I think that WDW really needs a new fireworks or parade to prop up excitement.

What Disney really needs to do is stop looking only one year in advance and start planning five years into the future. It seems like if a movie is a success some rushed attraction or marketing campaign is thrown together to take advantage of the brief spike in popularity. Will pirates be as popular three years from now? Probably not. Theme parks need to have a much longer time horizon than what is in today or this week.

Does anyone feel like the YOMD was totally over rated? When we were there in December and January, you would never believe that there was anything happening. With the exceptions of the mickey ears and the ocassional dream fast passes there was no sign of anything special happening. I had to explain to my family that the YOMD was happening and what it was.

Not really. They had the 75 Mickey's on tour. They
were also on Display in DCA and some in the esplanade
at DLR. That was widely publicized, with several
celebrities, designing, and in some cases even painting
    the large Mickeys.
