    Freeway Help/ avoiding the fire

    OK
Bright and early Sunday morning, my family and I are leaving for DL from the SF bay area. We had planned on taking the 5 down, but now I am having second thoughts.

Because of the huge Fire in Griffith Park, do you think I should take the 101 and by the time I have to get onto the 5 I would be past that part of the fire? I'm not so much worried about getting burnt up, I am more worried about massive traffic of people lookey looing at it.

    any info??
    thanks

You should be fine, don't worry about the fire, it doesn't really impact the freeway unless it's actually touching the freeway like it has in the passed, I've noticed it scares more away than it catches "looky loos" as i take this freeway very frequently

    1. The fire should be out by then. And early Sunday morning will certainly not have much traffic to begin with.
    2. Take The 5 South to The 210 East to The 2 South back to The 5 South.
    3. Alternative: Take The 5 South to The 210 East to The "710" South, off the end of the freeway, onto surface streets (supply in a few minutes), back onto The 710 South, back on to The 5 South.
Surface street from 210 to 710:
    a) Stay on freeway until it ends.
    b) Go straight through California Blvd intersection onto South St Johns Avenue.
    c) St Johns will become S Pasadena Ave.
    d) When S Pasadena Ave ends at Columbia St. take a left and then an immediate right, on to Fremont Ave.
    e) Stay on Fremont about three miles, past Huntington, past Alhambra, past Main, and just past Mission to Valley Blvd.
    f) Take a right on Valley, then a left onto The 710 South.
    g) Stay in left hand lanes, and exit to The 5 South.

The fire is almost out now so I dont think it will be an issue. The 5 is still your best bet.

I would be more concerned with the traffic from the dodger home game that starts at 1:10pm. Depending on what time you leave and when you get to that area, there may be traffic from that, but its still not bad enough that I would take a detour for it.

    A little piece of heaven

While the 101 is quite scenic, I don't recommend it for this trip. It will definitely add hours to your journey.

so does the 5 when you have to drive through LA. You get alot of that stop and go congestion....no reason for it....just very sluggish....for many miles. yuck.

I would advise taking the 5 south to the 210 east then the 57 south, exit Ball Rd and turn right (west). You will see Disneyland on your left as you approach Harbor. Continue up ahead and you'll see the parking structure on your left.

This is the easier, less congested way to go.

yeah, fire or no, I always hit bad traffic south of the 210 on the 5...

so this is your best bet! it is kind of round a bout... but it is best!
