TRIP REPORT: 5-18 SUBMARINES AND DARLA PROBLEMS![Photo heavy!]

Captured great photos of the subs and some problems that Imagineering was working on.



First my afternoon pictures of the subs:






I tried to get that classic shot of the Monorail and the subs, but I was not in the right place. Here I missed the sub.


Here the Monorail has moved out of frame. Oh well...


The falls were working today.


A lot of activity on the boarding station.


I think this is Tony Baxter!


I came by the subs and saw that one sub was stopped and divers were all over the lagoon. There was a sub just stopped and some work was being done:







Suddenly a diver reaches down and starts pulling out the brightly colored seaweed!






This woman then picks this all up and hightails it out of there! (What people will do for souvenirs! )



I was told that this man who helpped her was the art director on this project. (But I cannot confirm that!)


What I hear is that they are working on a problem. Apparently, someone had just seen Darla's hair just get pulled out of the water. But I missed that.



Apparently this was the part that was the problem!




I hear the guy in the sub say to rip the head off if the diver cannot fix it! I thought that it would be funny to see a floating child head in the lagoon. I don't many kids would want to ride the subs if they saw that!

So they are working behind a rock. There are some bubbles coming up there but I cannot see anything.






Then all of a sudden the diver climbs out of the water!




He seems to be doing something to the rock!


Oh! that isn't a rock! It is a control station!



He is working on something right here.


I started to make out hands fixing something.


After getting the bubble to stop, suddenly the man in the sub hand him Darla's hair!
They were moving very quickly but I got some shots. The first is looking inside Darla's brain, but it is empty!






Can you see Darla?


I took another picture and put it in Photoshop. I enhanced the color and contrast. I adjusted the exposure. NOW can you see Darla?

How about in this one? She is wearing a black wetsuit with pink trim.


After fixing her, they covered her up. Here is the same spot after they arranged the seaweed.


Well, that was my big find. I had to stand there a while before they got her fixed. Something about lowering her PSI to 80. They she started moving underneath the water.

I loved finding her. I hope you loved hearing.

I was totally intrigued by your TR! Thanks for sharing those awesome pics of Darla and everything with the divers. Also very nice attempt at getting the classic Monorail with Subs shot. I think everything you took came out extremely well and I thoroughly enjoyed it so thanks for sharing.

Wow! My jaw kinda dropped.
That's crazy. Talk about right place at the right time!

For some reason though, I do really like that they have her covered up
Leads to more suprises when you go on the ride (well I guess not so much anymore ) and it's cool that you can't see everything from above the water

I was at the park today and I saw this too. I was watching, and then I saw him bring up Darla's hair...

That sub stayed parked there all day apparently, because we came back and it was there at 11:00pm-ish. The lagoon looked a little low on water too. A lot of the tops of the seaweed were sticking up out of the water, and there was a visible water line of where the water used to be on the walls...

I guess they are pushing for an opening since I was told that the subs will be open tomorrow night for VIPs if at all possible ... this was just part of the major work going on yesterday .

Great pics! I was at the Resort today and saw them working at night. Caught the very end of the project before they backed Nautilus into the dock and closed down.

Also, anyone else notices that Explorer has a huge dent in her nose as well as some nasty scraped paint? Anyone know if she got in a fenderbender with another sub?

Anyone else slightly creeped out by this? Seeing Darla's hair and then her full body under the water ....I dunno, something about it just eeks me out.

Wow, they did a great job hiding her in the bright seaweed... in the hundreds of subs photos in the past month, I had no idea she was down there!
